Wright and Bramlett were named as the Academic All-America® of the Year Award winners in the College and University Divisions, respectively. Wright became only the second player ever to earn the Academic All-America® of the Year award for softball in back-to-back seasons. Jenny Esker of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville was honored in 2002 and 2003. Wright’s selection as the Academic All-America® of the Year completes a remarkable week for St. Thomas (Minn.). On Tuesday, pitcher Matt Schuld of St. Thomas was honored as the Academic All-America® of the Year for the College Division in baseball. A Physical Education major with a 3.64 G.P.A., Bramlett was named as an NFCA first team All-Region selection for the fourth time in her career, providing her with the opportunity to become only the second softball player in Southeastern Conference history to be named a first-team All-American four consecutive years. While leading Mississippi State to a 26-29 record, she set the SEC single season record with a .536 batting average as a senior, second in the NCAA.

Senior pitcher Stacey Nelson, the Academic All-America® of the Year in the University Division, and senior catcher Kristina Hilberth represented the Gators on the Academic All-America® University Division first team. Sophomore pitcher Stephanie Brombacher and senior first baseman Ali Gardner were named to the third team. They have led Florida to a 63-3 record and a matchup against Washington in the national finals which start on Monday, June 1. A senior Philosophy major with a 3.66 G.P.A., Nelson is a finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award. A first team Academic All-America® pick for the second year in a row, she has a 41-3 record with a 0.48 E.R.A. in 2009. With 33 complete games and 22 shutouts, she has pitched 274 innings and has 347 strikeouts. A native of Los Alamitos, Cal., she has been honored as the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year twice. At the College World Series, Nelson pitched Florida into the championship round by throwing back-to- back shutouts against Arizona and Michigan.
