Summary: This simple gospel presentation explains the gospel message by explaining two mountains: Sinai and Calvary. One is the holiness of God that demands our death; the other is the mercy of God that offers us forgiveness. This presentation was originally used with a chalk artist drawing a correlated picture.

When we think of great mountains, we might think of the tallest mountain in the world—Mount Everest! But the Bible tells us about two mountains that are even greater. They aren’t greater because they are so very tall; they’re greater because of what happened on those mountains. One of those great mountains is

Turn in your Bibles to Exodus Chapter 20 and Verse 1: “And God spake all these words…”

Most of us would agree that when God talks, we should listen. We have the Word of God—the Bible—to talk to us. That’s a great privilege. But , the great leader of the nation of Israel, had a special privilege because God spoke to him “face to face.” The Bible tells us of a great meeting between God and Moses on Mount Sinai—where God gave the law to Moses. You might know them as Commandments. Look at verse 3. God said, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

Verse 4: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image…”

Verse 7: “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”

Verse 8: “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.”

Verse 12: “Honor thy father and thy mother.”

And Verses 13 through 17: “.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Thou shalt not covet…” As God spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, the Bible tells us that the people heard the thundering of God’s voice and saw the lightning and the mountain smoking and they were afraid! Like us, the people had sinful hearts, and they were guilty before God, and hadn’t even realized it! That’s why God gave them—and us—the law “in black and white,” so we can’t miss it!

Let me illustrate: the first law is “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” We can trick ourselves into thinking that we’re OK because we believe in God, but the Bible warns us “the fear of man bringeth a snare…” Watch out for the trap! Are you concerned with obeying God in all things or are you more interested in looking good before your friends or family? If you’re like me, you’ve often fallen into that trap, and you’re guilty!

The second commandment is “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”—! “I don’t bow down to statues, so I must be ok…” Watch out—another trap! The Bible says “stubbornness is as idolatry.” (I Sam 15:23) The truth is, we have all gone our own stubborn way and we’re guilty!

Now that’s just two of the commandments. The truth is—I’ve broken them all. And, if you are honest, so have you. And besides that, the Bible says that whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

When we come to Mount Sinai, we find out that we are GUILTY! But the Bible tells us about ANOTHER mountain—Mount Calvary…for God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son! !

Jesus, God’s Son, came to this earth in the flesh and never sinned—not once—not in word or in thought or in motive or even by accident. But Jesus was crucified on Mount Calvary, not for his OWN , but for OUR sins! God made a way for our GUILT to be covered by the blood of Jesus Christ!

And because of what Jesus did at Mt. Calvary, God commands all men everywhere to repent. Turn away from your and turn toward the Lord Jesus Christ as your ONE and ONLY hope! Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” Two mountains: Mount Sinai and Mount Calvary. Do you hear God’s righteous sentence from Mount Sinai today: GUILTY! Then run to Mount Calvary—run to Jesus Christ!
