Kirby-Jones Traded to Padres OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s acquired infielder Andy Parrino and left-handed pitcher Andrew Werner from the San Diego Padres in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyson Ross and minor league first baseman A.J. Kirby-Jones, the team announced today. Parrino batted .207 with one home run and six RBI in 55 games with San Diego. He appeared in 26 games at shortstop, 15 games at second base, two games at third base and one game in right field. The 27-year-old switch-hitter spent the balance of the season with Triple-A Tucson, batting .328 with one home run and 32 RBI in 65 games. He appeared in 39 games at shortstop, 11 games at second base, six games in left field, four games at third base and two games at designated hitter. Werner was selected from Triple-A Tucson Aug. 22 and was 2-3 with a 5.58 ERA and .285 opponents batting average in eight games, all starts, in his Major League debut with San Diego. The 25-year-old was also 5-10 with a 3.70 ERA and .271 opponents average in 22 minor league starts, including 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA in four starts with Tucson and 4-8 with a 3.23 ERA in 18 starts at Double-A San Antonio. Ross was 2-11 with a 6.50 ERA and .327 opponents batting average in five stints with Oakland this past season. The 25- year-old Berkeley, Calif. native was 2-9 with a 6.45 ERA in 13 games, all starts, over his first four stints and 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA in five relief appearances during his fifth stint in September. He was also 6-2 with a 2.99 ERA and .235 opponents average in 15 games, 13 starts, at Triple-A Sacramento. Kirby-Jones batted .248 with 21 home runs and 69 RBI in 115 games at Single-A Stockton. He added 86 walks for a .382 on-base percentage and slugged .461. The 24-year-old right-handed hitter batted .276 against left-handed pitching and .238 against right-handers. This is his second career stint on the disabled list as he missed the entire 2012 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during spring training. Parrino was batting .174 with a double and RBI in six games with Sacramento, all at shortstop. He batted .368 with one home run and nine RBI in 26 games with the A’s this spring before he was optioned to Sacramento March 30. The 27-year-old switch-hitter appeared in nine games in left field, eight at third base, eight at shortstop, two at second base and one in right field during Spring Training. Parrino was acquired by the A’s with Andrew Werner from San Diego Nov. 16, 2012 in exchange for Tyson Ross and A.J. Kirby-Jones.
