2. Updates:

Government – DADO

Seed distribution has been started in south part of the district. FAO has delivered 20 MT rice seed and distribution is on progress in its targeted VDCs. Rice seed from Save the Children arrived in WFP warehouse and ready to distribute. Save the Children has submitted distribution plan. CARE plan is to provide 15 MT seed in its project VDC. LIBIRD plan is to support 5 MT through DADO.

World Food Program

WFP applying three strategies are Remote Area Operation, Air operation and Surface Transportation to deliver food in Gorkha. First round food distribution has completed. So far a total of 840.613 MT food has been distributed. Now second round of food distribution has begun in prioritized VDCs where each household will be received 40 kg food. Now WFP has nominated Save the Children as technical support (TA) partner to support Red Cross Society.

Good Neighbor Working in four VDC, , , Aruarbang and . And plan to support 7 MT rice seed in a week. Assessment of other livelihood options such water mill and other occupational livelihood option is on progress. Other livelihoods support will be made once assessment be completed.

CARE CARE is providing 15 MT paddy seed to the farmer next week. Furthermore, CARE can also support vegetable and millet seeds Vegetable seed but need more technical information by ecological zone. DADO can support CARE in this area.

OXFAM Market support through cash transfer is a priority. Need assessment of agriculture inputs to protect grain. OXFAM plan is to support 4000 water seal storage bags to affected farmer in Gorkha. OFAM will have further discussion with DADO for possible replication such support in other area.

Christian Aid/ Practical Action Unconditional cash transfer is a major priority. 1000 households will receive NPR 7,500 in and VDC. Furthermore another partner of Christian Aid, PGBS has distributed regular food to 1280 families it its project VDC.

Danish Church Aid/ECHO Nepal Danish Church Aid target is to support regular food to 1000 most affected vulnerable and marginalized households. 250 out of 1000 famalies has received 25 kg rice, 5 kg lintel, 1 liter vegetable oil and 1 kg sugar and 1 kg of salt. Rest distribution is on progress through it local partner in targeted area.

Save the Children Save the Children aim to support 82 MT rice seed to in Gorkha and working closely with DADO. Seeds are arriv9ng to WFP warehouse in Khairani and distribution process had been already started. Save the Children has been working with respective Agriculture Service Centre in 10 VDC and 14 and 15 ward of . Distribution plan has been developed as below.

3. Challenge and Gap  Time is passing and it is very hard to meet agriculture crop season. All rice seeds need to distribute by next one week otherwise it may have negative impact in production.  Gorkha need Khumal series of rice seed for uphill but not available in the market. DADO is looking other part of country is possible.

 Demand of fruit sapling is heavily increased. DADO need 500,000 sapling in Gorkha. Orange, Licchi, Mango and lemon are key type of sapling required.  Landslides has badly affected to cardamom field and require 500,000 cardamom sapling to support the farmer.  At least 5 MT millet seed required.

4. Learning from Food distribution First round food distribution has been completed. Based on the learning, WFP has assigned another partner, Save the Children to support Nepal Red Cross in distribution. Save the Children will support Red Cross in key steps of project cycle such as planning and monitoring including reporting.
