Every two years, the Association’s Political Action Committee (PAC) invites candidates who are running for office to complete a questionnaire and, for those who are not incumbents, to interview with the committee. We do this as a service to members because many of these candidates and their positions are not well known and, for many of us, it’s difficult to get information about those for whom we will have an opportunity to vote.

This year 94 of the 122 Montgomery County candidates for the General Assembly, County Executive, County Council, and Board of Education returned our questionnaire. Of the 122, 32 were incumbents and did not need to interview. A total of 51 candidates were interviewed by our 14 member committee.

Based on the candidates’ questionnaire responses, our interviews of non-incumbents, and the voting records of the incumbents, the PAC is making the following recommendations (Listed on the next page).

The Primary Election is Tuesday, September 12. Prior to that date, you should receive a sample ballot from the Board of Elections showing the names of the candidates for whom you will have an opportunity to vote. The sample ballot will also show the address of your polling place. Please check carefully for your poll location before you go to vote as it may have changed. Your sample ballot will reflect only those names for whom you are eligible to vote; e.g., by party affiliation or by the district in which you live. Therefore, you will not see all of the names which are listed here.

After the Primary Election, if necessary, the PAC will make recommendations for the November 7 General Election. Our recommendations for that election will be in the MCPSRA Newsletter and candidates we are recommending will be invited to the MCPSRA October 26 luncheon.

If you would like to become involved in one of the campaigns or are willing to post a yard sign, please call or e-mail me: LeeAnn Kaye [email protected] or 301-598-5480.
