Being a seer has given Keta Jinar of clan Ashfen everything he needs: a comfortable home, a respected place among his people and any possession he could wish for. It's also given him isolation, loneliness and a longing for someone he can never have; Tavian Vald, warrior and head of clan Raizar. When the threat of an invasion forces an alliance between Ashfen and Raizar, Keta both anticipates and dreads the event. Tavian has set conditions for the joining of their two clans; one being the right to choose as his consort, any free member of clan Ashfen. On the one hand Tavian will be closer, on the other, seeing Tavian with a woman of Ashfen will tear Keta apart. Through dangers and misunderstandings, Keta and Tavian will battle their way to a place where they can face each other with open hearts, thoughts and desires… unless the rise of an unexpected foe brings their world to an end. Switcher's Rhapsody. Mengs of the Starship Brizo, never expected his vacation would end with a near crash landing on a backwater planet like Peldar. Resigned to several days of boredom while his shuttle is repaired, an unexpected meeting with a cute and sassy Adarian lands Mengs in a hornet's nest of trouble. It seems Switcher has stolen a prize from a pack of poachers who will do anything to get it back. Stranded and on the run, Mengs and Switcher, with all odds against them, will fight their way free to save not only themselves, but a species on the verge of extinction. The Hundred Years Mate. To cement the peace between two warring planets, every hundred years a member of their respective royal families is chosen to become the mate of one of their former enemies. From the time he was old enough to understand, Prince Kaulen Visantin knew he would be the hundred years sacrifice and he's hated the thought with a vengeance. For good reason. His new husband, Crown Prince Tarant Helquin, is cold and disdainful and yet still determined to breed an heir on his less-than-eager, new mate. Adrift in a household of vipers and trapped in a loveless marriage, Kaulen finds solace and joy from an unexpected source. When he inevitably becomes pregnant, Kaulen is resolved to make the best of a bad situation, but someone has other plans. Plans that include Kaulen's death. A Meld of Hearts. Bren Arol, never wanted a second mate. Werewolves were supposed to be happy with one true mate and Bren loved his mate, Hrayn, with all his heart. But from the moment Bren met High Lord Vandrel Capel, Bren's melder heritage insisted that Van belonged with them. Beloved by his people Vandrel Capel has friends and two children he dearly loves. Still, he is a man alone. No one fills his heart, until two men, one sweet and loving and the other generous and forbearing, enter his life. With Bren and Hrayn, Van is sure he's found true happiness… until fate intervenes. Through the machinations of one man and one wicked deed, what begins for Bren, Hrayn and Van is torn asunder, but Van refuses to let go. He will do all in his power to save the love that began with three people destined to be together. Coming Soon. Jamie Hardin has been both blessed and cursed. His first marriage was ideal until his beloved wife's passing. His second became a horror story that resulted in his sixteen year old son disappearing from his life for two torturous years. Now divorced and reunited with Rio, who has since become a werewolf and mate to Mick Matranga, Jamie has begun a new chapter in his life. Uprooting himself and his adopted son, Jack, to be near his eldest child, Jamie is looking forward to reestablishing his relationship with Rio, and setting up his optometry practice. What he hadn't counted on was a very sexy werewolf taking more than a shine to him. Jed Matranga has made it his business to alleviate the guilt Jamie feels for the hardships Rio has endured, and to raise his spirits along with certain body parts Jamie was sure had given up the ghost. Though far from objecting to the heat between them, Jamie is unsure he deserves to be happy again. It will take a very determined person to show Jamie that old hurts can be laid to rest, and new delights should be embraced without reservation. For a very simple reason, Jed has appointed himself to be that person; Jamie is his mate, and accepted or not, Jed will do everything he can to return the joy to Jamie's life. Blurb: Jamie Hardin has been both blessed and cursed. His first marriage was ideal until his beloved wife’s passing. His second became a horror story that resulted in his sixteen year old son disappearing from his life for two torturous years. Now divorced and reunited with Rio, who has since become a werewolf and mate to Mick Matranga, Jamie has begun a new chapter in his life. What he hadn’t counted on was a very sexy werewolf taking more than a shine to him. Review: This is the sequel to Altered Heart , and I’d definitely recommend reading these in order. Technically, I suppose you could figure things out if you didn’t, but it just wouldn’t be as rich an experience. The story literally takes off where book one left us, with the barbeque at Rio and Mick’s house and Jamie and his son coming to visit. Jed realizes right away that Jamie is his mate, but he knows Jamie has never been with a man and doesn’t want to push him… but he does anyway. Jamie reacts in both hot and cold ways, sometimes flirty, sometimes reserved, but the connection is established. As Jamie settles in to his new life, he has Jed there helping him remodel his house to fit his new business, and remodel his life as he becomes attracted to a man for the first time and a werewolf’s mate to boot. I was very psyched to see this sequel because I enjoyed Altered Heart so much! Jed is a great character, fun, witty, snarky… Jamie is harder to love, he’s guilt ridden and sometimes acts a bit too much like an old fuddy duddy. There were some world building issues that confused me in this story – mostly about the difference between mate bites and “turn” bites – and also the aging process and what’s going to happen to Jamie as he ages if he doesn’t become a werewolf… stuff that I didn’t really understand. Jamie was also enough of a downer, that at times I was pretty frustrated with him – he just seemed to keep giving these mixed signals that would drive someone crazy. In the end, when he does finally commit to his new feelings, it felt a bit rushed and out of nowhere. Also, Jack is never really part of the story and his absence was felt. Another missing component was any serious hurdles. Yes, Jed did have to “win” Jamie’s affections, and yes, Rio did have some initial objections, but those were fairly well resolved even at the beginning, so there wasn’t much “struggle” for our MCs. This made the waffling even more annoying, because it was only Jamie’s own feelings that really kept him from immediately giving in to the allure. So, though it was a good story, it wasn’t as good as book one and though I liked it, I didn’t love it. Overall Impression: I liked it. *I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for a fair and honest review.* Lucky Dog (Soul Familiar 1) My name is Alex Layton and I'm a soul familiar. What's that, you ask? Well, as you might already know, having a familiar is the icing on the cake for a magic practitioner. A familiar enhances their power and gives them the ability to work spells they might otherwise find beyond their reach. Having a soul familiar as a partner goes way beyond cake, baby. We work with our partner and bond with them heart, mind, body, and soul. It's a true joining imbued with love and magic. All that aside, I'm about to tell you a little story of how Tyler Montgomery, an untrained wizard, summons me to help him with a small problem. It seems Tyler's had a spell cast on him. It prevents him from getting close to anyone in any way for any reason -- including sex. Fortunately for Tyler, I find myself very eager to help him. Of course it doesn't hurt one bit that he's a sweet and sexy virgin. I've had over two hundred years of magical and bedroom experience. I'm the perfect guy to break this spell and if I help myself to a taste of Tyler, well, where's the harm in that? Hmm? Praise for Lucky Dog. "The sex doesn't overpower this book but it is well done if you enjoy M/M erotica. Over all a very well done story. I'd certainly pick up another book by Steele." " Soul Familiar 1: Lucky Dog is an incredible story. The phenomenal Kate Steele takes this to the extremes. A creative and well paced plot with gorgeous characters that is extremely sexy, heartwarming, and hilarious. Soul Familiar 1: Lucky Dog is a keeper; I look forward to the next episode." " Lucky Dog is the first book in Kate Steele's new Soul Familiar series and as such it's a great beginning. Lucky Dog is very short but manages to sum up all pertinent points and leave a bit of mystery and plot point to segue way into a future book. a fun and enjoyable read." " Lucky Dog was an absolute pleasure to read. The supernatural aspect is well handled and seems natural. The sex is super-hot. The ending is wide open, and hopefully there will be sequels. I'll be first in line to read them!" " Lucky Dog is a very humorous and entertaining story. Alex is the perfect contrast to Tyler's shy demeanor. This is really a fun story to read, and I'm looking forward to the sequel." Lucky Dog (Soul Familiar 1) Kate Steele All rights reserved. Copyright ©2008 Kate Steele. I was in my studio, minding my own business, and just working away. It was late or early as the case may be. Nearly one a.m. I was really in the zone too. I was doing some exceedingly detailed work on the wings of a griffin. You ever try to sculpt feathers? Depending on how you do it, it's painstaking work. My technique involves toothpicks and fingers that cramp in protest after a couple of hours. I was nearing the tip of one wing when I felt this prickly sensation on the back of my neck. It actually made me shiver. Before I knew it, that prickly feeling had turned into a tingle that started sliding down my spine. Someone was calling me. "Son of a bitch. You have got to be kidding me. Now ? Not a nudge, not a niggle in how many years and you gotta call me now? Now when I'm working !" Okay, I'll admit I was growling at this point but I hate to be interrupted while I'm in the zone. And you try watching yourself grow transparent, see how you like it. It's a little disconcerting. The clay-covered toothpick I was holding dropped from my slowly disappearing fingers and I heard a spate of protesting squeaks come from across the room. Mustering a breath, I managed to answer them. "It's okay, Kohe; I won't be gone long." I took one last, longing look at my griffin before I was unceremoniously yanked off to God knows where. The trip was over in no time. It's no big deal and there's no scenery on the way. It's like zipping down a long, dark tunnel until light appears at the other end and wham, there you are. It is a little hard on the stomach. You, like, go weightless and there's this nifty spinning sensation. When you arrive it's sort of like how you feel after a really rad rollercoaster ride. Barf bags recommended for those of weak constitution. So where was I? Good question. It looked like a public library. A small, old, and well-established one. There were rows of sturdy, free standing bookcases made of thick, prominently grained and heavy oak with every shelf filled with books. The end of each bookcase bore signs that labeled their content by subject and with what I assumed were card catalogue numbers. Through the windows across the room, I could see it was dark outside and the clock on the wall proclaimed to the world that it was one oh three a.m. At least I was still in the same time zone, miracle of miracles. It also explained the subdued lighting. Apparently they turned off a good two- thirds of the overhead fluorescents after hours. I was standing in an area that was obviously meant for in-house study. The carpet was a short-napped utilitarian gray and on it rested a couple of library tables in the same thick, heavy oak as the shelves. The chairs matched the tables and actually had the luxury of padded seats and backs. I took a deep breath and almost hummed with pleasure. I love the smell of books. Libraries all have this same, basic aroma. It's a combination of paper and leather, ink and humanity. All that knowledge, information, and entertainment bound in millions of neat, tight rectangles. How easily it binds the humans who seek it. For some people, books emit a siren song more beguiling than one sung by the most enchanting of sea nymphs. I might not be human but I guess I'm one of those people. I've had plenty of time to fill over the years and a good part of that has been whiled away in libraries. After all, I can't spend all my time carousing. Here in this place, after hours and apparently all alone, I found another person who shared at least one of my interests. Head down and seemingly totally oblivious to my presence, was the person who'd summoned me. From where I stood and from what I could see at first, I wasn't impressed. He looked young. A mop of golden blond hair graced a head that was bent over a book. When he angled his chin slightly to read from one page to the next, I saw a glint of light. He was wearing glasses. Barefoot, I made no sound as I crossed the carpeted floor. I leaned over him and in my best Lurch from the Addams Family imitation growled, "You rang."
