While accomplishing this task, the Institute also conducted regional workshops, open-houses and marine H[KLELWLRQVHWFIRUWKHEHQH¿WRIWKH¿VKHUPHQWKH¿VKLQJLQGXVWU\DQGWKHHQGXVHUVDVDSDUWRIWKHH[WHQVLRQDFWLYLWLHV in all the maritime states. The Institute has also been acting as an interface between the Ministry of Agriculture and the 6WDWH)LVKHULHV'HSDUWPHQWVLQFROOHFWLRQRIWKHPDULQH¿VKODQGLQJGDWDE\WKHZD\RISURYLGLQJWUDLQLQJWRWKHVWDWH ¿VKHU\RI¿FLDOVDQGGDWDHQXPHUDWRUVXQGHU&66SURJUDPPH The Institute continued to impart training to the students sponsored by the CIFNET, Kochi on board survey vessels on tenure basis as well as the pass out students of CIFNET on casual basis. During the year under report Fishery Survey of India has published the Fishery Bulletin No. 31, on “Demersal Fishery Resources off the East Coast of India- an 8SGDWH´DQG,QGLD¶V1DWLRQDO5HSRUWWRWKH6FLHQWL¿F&RPPLWWHHRIWKH,QGLDQ2FHDQ7XQD&RPPLVVLRQ As a part of the National Marine Fisheries Census, Fishery Survey of India under the Central Sector Scheme (CSS) on “Strengthening of Database and Geographical Information System for the Fisheries Sector”, has conducted the Marine )LVKHULHV&HQVXVLQERWKWKH87¶VRI$QGDPDQ 1LFREDUDQG/DNVKDGZHHS,VODQGVGXULQJ)HEUXDU\0DUFK Engagement of enumerators and census enumeration was carried out in collaboration with the respective Fisheries 'HSDUWPHQWVRIERWKWKH,VODQGV7RFDUU\RXWWKLVFHQVXVZRUNRI¿FLDOVIURPWKH)6,DQGWKHRI¿FLDOVRI¿VKHULHV GHSDUWPHQWIURPERWKWKH,VODQGVJURXSVZHUHLGHQWL¿HGDV6XSHUYLVRUVDQGWKHZRUNZDVH[HFXWHGE\HQJDJLQJ HQXPHUDWRUVLQWKH$QGDPDQ 1LFREDUJURXSRI,VODQGVDQGHQXPHUDWRUVLQWKH/DNVKDGZHHS,VODQGVUHVSHFWLYHO\ 'XULQJWKH\HDUXQGHUUHSRUWWKHÀHHWRIYHVVHOVRIWKH,QVWLWXWHFROOHFWLYHO\DFKLHYHGGD\VRXWDWVHDH[SHQGLQJ DVDPSOLQJHIIRUWRIKRXUVDQGKRRNV7KHLQFLGHQWDO¿VKFDWFKGXULQJWKHVXUYH\ZDVWRQQHV realizing a revenue of `26.29 lakhs as the sale proceeds. The budget grant of the Institute for the year 2015-16 was `66.70 crore and the expenditure was `53.24 crores.

The Fishery Survey of India, Mumbai, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries is the nodal agency for carrying out the survey, assessment and PRQLWRULQJRIWKHPDULQH¿VKHU\UHVRXUFHVRIWKH,QGLDQ((=ZLWKLQWKHIUDPHZRUNRIDZHOOGH¿QHGPDQGDWH 7KHPDQGDWHRIWKH,QVWLWXWHLVWXQHGIURPWLPHWRWLPHWRPDWFKWKHGHYHORSPHQWDODFWLYLWLHVRIWKH¿VKHULHV sector as well as to meet the national and global requirements. ¾ 6XUYH\V RI 0)9 /DYDQLND UHYHDOHG WKDW &DUDQJLGV DQG VLOYHU EHOOLHV ZHUH WKH GRPLQDQW VSHFLHV UHFRUGHG LQ WKH WRWDO catch. The swarming crabs (Charybdis Smithii) and molluscan shells were recorded in large quantities during the north-east monsoon season.

¾ Highest catch rate of 184.4 kg/hr was recorded by the shrimp trawl in the depth zone of 50-100 m of latitude 16° N followed by the catch rate of 134.2 kg/hr in the depth zone 30-50 m of latitude 18° N.

¾ The highest catch rate of 302 kg/hr was recorded in the depth zone of 30-50 m of latitude 17° N.

¾ The catches of silverbellies was dominant in both the depth zones of 30-50 m and 50-100 m.

¾ The highest catch rate of 300 kg/hr was recorded in a single haul in the area latitude 17°45.2’N and longitude 83°26.2’E at a depth of 33 m during the April 2015 voyage.

¾ During May, 2015 voyage in a single haul 168 nos of Pomadasys argenteus species weighing about 1.2 to 2.5 kg each were recorded in the area latitude 18° 16.5’N and longitude 84°14.4’E

¾ 7KH KLJKHVW FDWFK UDWH RI  NJKU FRQVLVWLQJ RI 6LOYHUEHOOLHV   PDFNHUHO   DQG EDUUDFXGD   ZHUH recorded in a single haul in the area latitude 17° 44.1’N and longitude 83° 28.1’E at a depth of 42m during the month of -XQH

Two training programmes on census data collection schedules were arranged for the supervisors, one at Port Blair on 20-02-2016 and the other at Kochi on 22-02-2016.
