Over the past five seasons, the trainers in this guide have all earned their place by consistently leading their horses into the winners’ enclosure. But the key to this guide is that most of the trainers have a record that is negative overall. That is, if you’d bet all of their horses at the track, you’d have made a loss. However, by carefully selecting specific types of race in which the trainer excels, Trainer Track Stats NH 2006/7 (TTS) provides a unique insight that is not available anywhere else. This further breakdown pinpoints with laser accuracy the trainer specialities that you need to focus on. By only betting horses at 14/1 or shorter, TTS followers do miss the occasional big priced winner. But when putting this guide together, I decided that consistency of winners and shorter losing streaks is the route forward, and that’s been borne out over the years. Below, you’ll find a short section on how to use TTS, which I hope is very straightforward. If you have any questions or comments on anything you see or read here, do please contact me at [email protected] Thanks again for your support, and good luck! `tàà U|áÉzÇÉ © Summum Bonum Ltd 2006 Page 3 HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE In putting this guide together, I have tried to make things as easy as possible. However, there are one or two terms which newcomers to jump racing may not understand, and so here is a glossary of terms and their meanings. Term Meaning All All runners for this trainer at this track Bumper See ‘Flat’ Chase / Fence / The larger of the obstacles in NH racing, usually for more Steeplechase mature horses Flat A beginner race for NH horses, involving racing without obstacles Hcap / hcp / handicap A Handicap is a race where horses carry weight according to their ability, such that each has a theoretically equal chance of winning. Hurdles / hdls Hurdles are the smaller of the two types of obstacles which NH racing features. Maiden A term for a horse who has yet to win, and a name for a race only open to non-winners Non-chase All races (i.e. flat and hurdles) except for chase races Non-flat All races (i.e. chases and hurdles) except for flat races Non-hurdles All races (i.e. flat and chase) except for hurdle races Novice / Nov A race for horses having their first season facing a particular obstacle (either hurdles or chase fences) yo ‘Year old’, e.g. 3-7yo refers to horses aged between 3 and 7 Simply check your newspaper daily for the relevant trainers and race types and, if there’s a qualifier at 14/1 or shorter, it’s a bet! It’s as easy as that. But remember, we only bet between September and April, which we consider the real National Hunt season. DISCLAIMER Here at Trainer Track Stats, we understand that gambling can become an addiction that can cause great harm if not controlled. Despite the excellent historical track records of our trainers, we remind you that you should only ever bet with an amount of money that you can afford to lose. Although this race is a real stamina test, the track itself is quite fair, and suits horses with a balance of stamina and speed. It is no surprise to see the three trainers below nominated. Indeed, they appear regularly throughout this guide. All three trainers pride themselves on the fitness of their horses and the soundness of their jumping, attributes which serve Aintree runners particularly well. 2001 /2 2002 /3 2003 /4 2004 /5 2005 /6 TOTAL Trainer Track Race Types Win run win run win run win run win run WIN RUN %age LSP LSP% J Howard Johnson Aintree 3-7yo 1 3 2 5 1 6 1 9 1 4 6 27 22.22 5.07 18.78% Miss Venetia Williams Aintree All 2 8 1 3 1 8 0 5 2 3 6 27 22.22 32.50 120.37% Jonjo O'Neill Aintree Hcaps 2 6 2 5 3 14 1 9 1 2 9 36 25.00 21.38 59.39% 2005/6 Track Record Cum Date Cse Horse Position SP P/L P/L 23/10/2005 AIN NILE MOON 11 7 -20 -20 23/10/2005 AIN TRIBAL DANCER 6 7 -20 -40 23/10/2005 AIN SPARTACUS BAY 1 14 280 240 20/11/2005 AIN ORTOLAN BLEU 2 10 -20 220 20/11/2005 AIN COVENT GARDEN 1 5 100 320 08/04/2006 AIN ALBANY 7 10 -20 300 08/04/2006 AIN MON MOME 1 7.5 150 450 08/04/2006 AIN REFINEMENT 1 2.75 55 505 08/04/2006 AIN CLAN ROYAL 3 5 -20 485 ASCOT Commentary After an absence of two years while the main stand was rebuilt, Ascot makes a welcome return this Winter, and one man who will look forward to it more than most is Nicky Henderson. Henderson has an enviable record at most of the big tracks, largely due to his ability to place his better horses in the right races. 2001 /2 2002 /3 2003 /4 2004 /5 2005 /6 TOTAL Trainer Track Race Types Win run win run win
