Paleo-The Story of Life
PALEO: THE STORY OF LIFE Life on Earth has not always existed as it currently does. The fact that life began on Earth in the first place is miraculous due to the environmental factors needed for its beginnings and sustainability. The relentless pursuit of life over billions of years from small living molecules to complex creatures roaming, flying and swimming throughout the Earth has culminated into the current state of life’s existence as we know it on the planet we call home. Paleo: The Story of Life is a 3,000-square-foot exhibit, spanning 4.6 billion years in scope. The exhibit presents casts of 128 rare fossils, including Lucy, Archaeopteryx and T rex, among many others. Drawn from the world’s foremost fossil collections, the Paleo exhibit showcases casts of rare fossils from the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia – skeletons, skulls, claws and eggs gathered from prestigious museums, including the Smithsonian Institution, American Museum of Natural History, Royal Ontario Museum and Carnegie Museum, among others. Rarely available for viewing outside of their respective museums, these compelling artifacts are presented exclusively in Paleo: The Story of Life. Fossils range from the earliest invertebrate marine life through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous dinosaurs to mammals and prehistoric humans. Paleo: The Story of Life explores the comprehensive story of prehistoric life on Earth. The Paleo exhibit is a visiting exhibit and will be on display through Thursday, May 31, 2018. It is located in the Horowitz Traveling Exhibit Area. The MOST presents Paleo: The Story of Life in association with the International Museum Institute, Inc. -

Zoosymposia, 7, xii + 316 pp. Abstract Despite more than 150 years of study of crinoids from the Moscow Region there are numerous undescribed taxa from well-known localities as well as others from poorly known localities. In recent years, through the acquisition of new collections as well as new discoveries, the holdings of Carboniferous crinoids of the Paleontological Institute, Russian Academy of Science have been greatly increased. This has allowed a more detailed study of the faunas, which is in pro- gress. Among the crinoids in the collection there are representatives of the family Pirasocrinidae Moore & Laudon, 1943, that are abundant in the Pennsylvanian of the USA, and previously unknown in the Carboniferous of the Moscow Region, as well as representatives of the genera Allosocrinus Strimple, 1949, Cibolocrinus Weller, 1909 and Elibatocrinus Moore, 1940, also previously unknown in the Moscow Region. There is also the first recognized Pennsylvanian member of the family Taxocrinidae Angelin, 1878. The stratigraphic distribution of the most common crinoids from the Carboniferous of the Moscow Region is compiled. The crinoid faunas that characterize the Upper Carboniferous Substages are described. -

Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 57 (3): 613–631. The Silurian crinoids of Estonia are re−evaluated based on new collections and museum holdings. Nineteen species−level crinoid taxa are now recognized. All crinoid names applied to Estonian Silurian crinoids during the middle 19th century are disregarded. Especially significant is the fauna reported herein from the Pridoli because coeval crinoids are very poorly known from the Baltic region and elsewhere. One new genus and four new species are described from Estonia, namely Calceocrinus balticensis sp. nov., Desmidocrinus laevigatus sp. nov., Eucalyptocrinites tumidus sp. nov., and Saaremaacrinus estoniensis gen. et sp. nov. The only occurrence of the wide-ranging planktonic crinoid Scyphocrinites sensu stricto in the British Isles is in Cornwall, southwest England. Although this occurrence was long thought to be Silurian, either Wenlock or Ludlow, the range of this genus is restricted to Přídolí (Upper Silurian) and lowermost Lochkovian (Lower Devonian). Available evidence supports a Lochkovian age for the Cornish specimens; Silurian rocks are absent from this area. These fossils were not illustrated in the original report; this omission is rectified herein. The specifi c diversity of fossil crinoids from the Much Wenlock Limestone Formation at Dudley, Worces- tershire, and in Shropshire diff er by an order of magnitude. The latt er are relatively depauperate and include only about six nominal species. Over 165 years ago, a specimen from Coalbrookdale, Shropshire, was identifi ed as Cyathocrinites tuberculatus Miller (= the taxocrinid fl exible Protaxocrinus tuberculatus (Miller)). This specimen, although indiff erently preserved, is distinct from other Silurian crinoids of the British Isles and is described herein as a monobathrid camerate, Macrostylocrinus? jeff eriesi sp. nov. This species has a moderately large, conical dorsal cup with at least 20 arms, broad primibrachials, a granular surface sculpture and no ray ridges. It is close in morphology to a ten armed species from the Much Wenlock Limestone Formation of Dudley, Macrostylocrinus -
