Important Notice – Charity Event on Friday 16th March, in memory of Liberty Schurer

In memory of Liberty Schurer, who passed away last October, aged 14 to Ewing’s Sarcoma (a rare form of bone cancer), her close friends Mia and Carla are kindly holding a doughnut stall to raise money for Liberty’s legacy page.

This Friday, please attend this wonderful event in support and memory of Liberty, and to celebrate her legacy to help find a cure to Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Held at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool on 23rd & 24th March, this event offers a valuable opportunity for students aged 15-19 to compare all the post-school options available, from universities to apprenticeships.

The event will include over 40 informative talks, one-to-one careers advice and skills workshops. You’ll also get to meet with the UK’s leading universities and find out about top apprenticeship schemes, including Mercedes-Benz, Superdrug, and J.P. Morgan.

Emotive Scholarship - Interested in courses in or related to Biology and Chemistry?

Open to year 12’s and 13’s studying biology and/or chemistry, the Emotive Scholarship is a great opportunity to receive work experience while at university, and some financial support towards textbooks and technology.

The deadline for Year 13 to apply is Saturday 31st March, but open to year 12’s next year. To apply, students must write a letter to Mr Kitley explaining ‘why you feel you should qualify for the scholarship.’ For more information, email me: [email protected] or find Mr Kitley.

Newcastle University - Residential Summer Schools 2018

This programme offers a variety of subject taster sessions, interactive activities, personal development sessions and social events. Students get to meet current undergraduates, learn more about the skills they will need to study at university and explore the range of degree courses available. The deadline for applications to both summer schools is 12 noon on Friday 23 March 2018.

If you would like to explore your options with Maths, Physics and/or Chemistry A levels, the University Options Day offers Year 12’s a free one- day event, involving interactive activities, demonstrations and short lectures, to provide an insight into what studying engineering and science at university involves.

Cambridge Sixth Form Law Conference

Next March the University of Cambridge is holding a 4-day law conference for 250 year 12 students. The event involves living in colleges and attending a series of mini-lectures and social events such as a mock trial to give you a taster of what studying law is potentially like. The conference will take place from Monday 26th March to Thursday 29th March.

We would like to invite your A-level students (and Year 11 students if applicable) to join us at the University of Leicester for the afternoon of Wednesday 14th March 2018, 12.30-3.30pm as part of Brain Awareness Week.

Careers fair in High Wycombe

BHP organisational visit

BHP is the world’s leading mining and resources company and they are holding organisational visits for a group of students. Their visit will include various BHP employees across multiple levels and functions providing an insight to the industry and detailing on the skills set required for success. The visit will last from 9:30am until 1pm on 14th March and lunch will be provided. Each school will be able to send 10 students along with a teacher. Do you want to work in TV? are holding a one-day workshop on the 7th April aimed at young people considering a career in the TV industry.

Course at Woburn Safari park

The four-day course at Woburn safari park this summer is offering a great experience for students interested in careers as vets, vet nurses, zoologists, animal behaviourists or careers within conservation. It involves many practical activities, theoretical lectures, behind the scenes tours as well as an opportunity to speak with keepers about their work!

The National Graduate Careers conference

Annual one-day schools conference giving you the latest insight on today’s graduate job market. This is to aid sixth formers by giving them information on universities, degree courses and apprenticeships that are most likely to lead to a successful graduate career in the future. It is taking place on Wednesday 23rd May at Euston Square in London.

Medical research Lecture opportunity

For anyone interested in a career in medicine, biomedical research, etc. is holding an informative lecture on medical research, on Tuesday this week. It starts at 6:00 with refreshments before the lecture, from 6:30-7:30pm. If you are interested in going, please let Mr Buxton know.

Medicine Summer School 2018

Held at the University of London, Bloomsbury Campus, the Medicine Summer school offers a series of two-day course delivered in a seminar style, giving students the opportunity gain a taste of lectures, discuss scientific areas of interest, and ask any questions.

The course offers in-depth presentations on particular areas of medical science from current senior medical students, as well as the chance to partake in hands-on experiments!

The course is divided into five two-day events - each focusing on different areas of medicine. You can choose whichever specialism interests you the most, or if you are looking for a comprehensive overview of the subject then you can come to all five! Areas of specialism include…

❖ Dealing with Patients, Radiology, Haematology, Cardiology, Trauma and Suturing (7th – 8th July) ❖ Neurology, The Respiratory System and Psychiatry (28th – 29th July 2018) ❖ Oncology, Clinical Pharmacology and Gastroenterology (4th – 5th August 2018) ❖ Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Childhood Development (18th-19th August 2018) ❖ Tropical Medicine, Epidemiology, Immunology and Surgical Skills (25th-26th August 2018)

To attend any one part of the Medicine Summer School the cost is £195, to attend any two parts the cost is £375, to attend any three parts the cost is £540, to attend any four parts of the Summer School is £700, to attend all five parts the cost is £850. Accommodation is not included.

Corpus Christi College are opening an essay competition for all year 12’s in many subjects including:
