ASHCROFT SECRETARY OF STATE STATE OF MISSOURI JAMES C. KIRKPATRICK STATE CAPITOL STATE INFORMATION CENTER (573) 751-2379 (573) 751-4936 Dear Fellow Missourians, For a short time on January 9, 2019, I had the honor and privilege of presiding over the 100th General Assembly. It is an important ceremonial and procedural role set forth in state law which has provided every General Assembly clear guidance on how to open the legislative session for more than 100 years. Just as state law provides the rules for this procedure, we all individually have certain guideposts which provide us the rules by which we live our lives. Elected officials have a responsibility to lead with integrity, humility and grace, to be candid, transparent and honest. We were elected to serve the people of Missouri, not the other way around. The vitality of our great state depends on honest, civil debate, and we have been given an incredible opportunity to model this for the next generation. In the following pages, you will find information about Missouri’s state and federal elected officials, the roles they serve and how to contact them. I encourage you to participate in your government, contact your elected representatives and make your voice heard. Sincerely, John R.
