CEMETERY RECORDS

Northamptonshire Archives holds cemetery records for (Billing Road, Dallington, Road and Kingsthorpe cemeteries) on microfilm. These are listed below. The original records are held by the Cemeteries Dept, Northampton Borough Council. See www.northampton.gov.uk The Archives also hold the Town Council records relating to Cemetery and some other villages, although the majority of the latter are post 1900. Records for other municipal cemeteries are held by the relevant town or borough council . Records for , (see below for list of parishes) and are available on Deceased Online.

DAVENTRY Welton Road Cemetery,

Hold a Register of Burials and a Register of Graves for the cemetery. Searches can be made of both by the Clerk of the Burials only. Initial searches free of charge but any extracts or plans provided will be charged at £10 per extract First used in 1954. Before that burials are likely to be at Holy Cross Church Daventry

BILLING ROAD CEMETERY The Northampton General Cemetery Company opened the General Cemetery in Billing Road in July 1847. Many of the graves were damaged by a bomb during World War Two.

Registers The registers are arranged in order of the interment number and each one has a separate index volume. The indexes record the name and age of the person buried, date of the interment and the folio number of the register.

DALLINGTON CEMETERY Dallington cemetery was formed in 1878 when it covered 2 acres. In 1913 a further 2 acres were added. It was then under the control of the parish council.

Registers There are two volumes of indexes to the registers. They give the name, age and date of interment, and the folio number in the register. The registers record the name, age, occasionally the occupation, the date of death, the place where the death occurred, the place from which the body was brought, the situation of the grave, the date of burial, the name of the person who performed the ceremony and the signature of the person making the entry of burial

Register of Purchased Graves The information recorded includes the names and address of the owner of the grave, the date of purchase, the grave number and division, the situation and type of grave, the amount paid, the receipt number and re-opening fees. Grave Book LG2/CEM/3/Film15**

KINGSTHORPE CEMETERY

Kingsthorpe cemetery on Harborough Road, covering 14 acres, was laid out in 1898. It had a mortuary chapel and lodge. By 1920 it had been taken over by the Borough authorities and a portion was consecrated.

TOWCESTER ROAD CEMETERY The cemetery, covering 20 acres, part of which is consecrated, opened in 1902 and is still in use. The index records the name, age and date of the interment and the page in the register. The register records the number of the interment, the date, name and age of the person buried, the residence where the death occurred, the date of death, when and where registered, the situation and number of the grave, the name of the person who performed the ceremony, and the signature of the person making the entry of burial.

OUNDLE TOWN CEMETERY These are the records deposited by Oundle Town Council. The cemetery was opened in 1859.

In use since late 1880, now under the care of Rushden Town Council who hold all the burial records from 1887. TOWCESTER CEMETERY Brackley Road

Records for December 1885 to September 1939 have been transcribed and digitised by Towcester & District Local History Society – details can be found on their website http://www.mkheritage.co.uk/tdlhs/FamHist/Cemetery/index.html

The inscriptions on the headstones have also been recorded and can be search as above.

The burials were listed in three register books which are now kept at the Record Office.

Wellingborough Borough Council covers cemeteries at Wellingborough, Doddington Road from 1907 Wellingborough, London Road from 1858 from 1910 Wollaston from 1938
