The senior actresses’ I explore in the case studies below insert their performances of self and their everyday lives into the large and complicated discourse of sex, producing a counter-narrative to sexually inactive senior women. Their performances actively embody their sexuality outside the frame of a character. This thesis examines how senior actresses’ performances of sexuality extend a discourse of sexuality imposed on older woman by mass media. These women are the public face of senior women’s sexual agency.

Get a free copy of the Epic Art Adventures brochure online at EpicArtAdventures.com or in-person at the Elkhart Visitor Center (which is the first stop listed below). Since the brochure does not provide recommended driv- ing or walking routes, be sure to bring this Minivan Adventures route guide along with you to make sure that you don’t miss any of these amazingly lifelike sculptures by Seward Johnson! And finally, we found it helpful to refer back to a GPS navigation mobile app occasionally. We used the Google Maps app. An Epic Self-Guided Tour Start at the Elkhart Visitor Center at 219 Caravan. There is a mural outside the building, and inside the building, you can see Getting Involved*. While you are there, you can pick up maps/brochures. Hop in your car and head south to the Wellfield Botanic Gardens at 1011 N Main where you can see Inner World, Outer World, quilt gardens and murals. Hop back into the car and drive to the Ruthmere Museum at 302 E Beardsley to enjoy quilt gardens and A Turn of the Century.

The walking tour begins at the district’s northernmost edge at 1 Police Plaza, across from City Hall. Here, visitors will find 5-in-1 by Tony Rosenthal. The artist’s work of five interlocking steel discs, rising to a height of 35 feet, represents the five boroughs coming together as one city. Additional pieces of art featured are: Shadows and Flags by Louise Nevelson (William Street between Maiden Lane and Liberty Street) Seven pieces bundled together as a singular abstract unit alludes to the wafting flags, ceremonious spirals, and blooming trees that define the New York City landscape. Group of Four Trees by Jean Dubuffet (28 Liberty Street) The “four trees” are created by a series of intertwined irregular planes, which lean in different directions and are connected by thick black outlines. The piece is part of Dubuffet’s “L’Hourloupe” cycle — a bold, graphic style inspired by a doodle. Sunken Garden by Isamu Noguchi (28 Liberty Street) In the winter, the garden, set one story below ground level, is a dry circular expanse; in the summer, it is transformed into a giant water fountain.
