She has replaced Gujarat governor Om Prakash Kohli who is holding additional charge of office of Governor of Madhya Pradesh. Constitutional provisions of Governor Governor is constitutional head of state. Article 153: Governors of States - There shall be a Governor for each State (7th Constitutional Amendment Act, 1956 facilitated the appointment of the same person as a governor for two or more states) Article 154: Executive power of State The executive power of the State shall be vested in the Governor and shall be exercised by him either directly or through officers subordinate to him in accordance with this Constitution. Article 155: Appointment of Governor The Governor of a State shall be appointed by the President by warrant under his hand and seal. Article 156: Term of office of Governor The Governor shall hold office during the pleasure of the President. A Governor shall hold office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office. Article 157: Qualifications for appointment as Governor No person shall be eligible for appointment as Governor unless he is a citizen of India and has completed the age of thirty-five years. Article 161: Power of Governor to grant pardons, etc., and to suspend, remit or commute sentences in certain cases India-Vietnam Bilateral Army Exercise (VINBAX-2018) The India-Vietnam Bilateral Army Exercise (VINBAX-2018) was conducted at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. It was the first military exercise between the two countries. VINBAX-2018 was Table Top Exercise to carry out training for Peace Keeping Operations under United Nations (UN) mandate. It was jointly undertaken between 15 officers each from Indian Army and Vietnam People’s Army. 44th edition of Khajuraho Dance Festival 2018 The 44th edition of Khajuraho Dance Festival 2018 was held at Khajuraho temple, a UNESCO world heritage site in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh. It was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and was organised by culture department of state government. Khajuraho Dance Festival is annual cultural festival that highlights richness of various Indian classical dance styles. The 6-day festival showcased classical dances including Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Mohiniattam. Khajuraho temple It is a group of Hindu and Jain Temples in Madhya Pradesh build by Chandela Dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD. They are UNESCO World heritage Site. The temples at Khajuraho are all made of Sandstone. The largest temple at Khajuraho is the Kandariya Mahadeva temple Kadaknath chicken Geographical Indication Registry and Intellectual Property India has awarded Geographical Indication (GI) Tag to Madhya Pradesh’s Kadaknath chicken. The GI tag will ensure that no one else can use name Kadaknath Chicken while selling any other black chicken. It will also translate into higher prices for producers. • Kadaknath chicken breed is unique for its black colour. • It is believed to have medicinal properties. • It is native tribal districts of Jhabua, Alirajpur and parts of Dhar in Madhya Pradesh. • Kadaknath chicken contains 25-27% of protein in comparison with other breeds of chickens that contain 18% protein. • It is also known for its high iron content. It has fat and cholesterol content lower compared with other chicken breeds. • Due to this special characteristics, Kadaknath chicken’s chicks and eggs are sold at much higher rate than other varieties of chicken. .

Opposition parties in the state also stood by the state government. What does this action of the Governor indicate? Governor’s refusal to convene assembly undermines duly elected State governments. He has encroached upon the powers of the state legislature and the elected government which undermines the democratic processes. His actions in defending the Centre and questioning the State on sensitive topics portrays him as partisan& can weaken federalism. Such partisan behaviour can tarnish his personal reputation as a fair- minded public figure. This action is comparable to that of Rajasthan Governor who refused to convene a session of the Assembly in July last year as demanded by the Chief Minister.
