-MEET THE- Jurassic Coast Ambassadors WORDS: Ross Packman IMAGES: Matt Austin
Established in 2002, The Jurassic Coast Trust is the charity which funds and inspires conservation, understanding and community engagement along the 95 miles of World Heritage Coastline.
The Trust co-ordinates talks, walks and family-friendly events to encourage visitors and residents alike to celebrate, understand and enjoy this iconic UNESCO-endorsed location. It relies on volunteers, grants, and donations from individuals and businesses to carry out its work along the coast.
The hard-working Jurassic Coast Trust Ambassadors are local volunteers who give up their time to tell people in their local community about the World Heritage Site and what makes it globally unique. Who better to give visitors the low-down on the best of the Jurassic Coast!

Emily
30 Meet Emily Name, age and professional background: I’m Emily Cowper-Coles, a 24 year-old environmental geoscience graduate from Cardiff University.
When did you first discover the wonders of the Jurassic Coast? I’ve visited the Jurassic Coast from birth, and remain convinced that on a dark and blowy Christmas Eve I saw Father Christmas flying over Monmouth Beach at Lyme Regis.
What inspired you to become a Jurassic Coast Ambassador? I wanted to find work on the coast, and what’s not to like about getting involved, with places to go and people to meet? I love seeing people enjoying the area and helping to protect the coast.
Describe your perfect Jurassic Coast weekend. A walk along the Undercliffs National Nature Reserve. Grab a packed lunch, get on the bus and then walk the whole way from Seaton to Lyme Regis, seeing hardly anyone. I’d then finish the day by watching the sunset on the beach.
Where is your favourite Jurassic Coast location? So hard to choose, but I would probably say Golden Cap.
What’s the Jurassic Coast’s best-kept secret? I almost want to keep it for myself, but Down House Farm Café at Eype.
Where’s your favourite place to wine and dine on the Jurassic Coast? I’d catch or buy some local fish and cook them on the beach myself!
For more information on the Jurassic Coast Trust’s important work and upcoming events, visit www.jurassiccoast.org
