No. 66/3 of Arakuzha Village, Muvattupuzha Taluk, Ernakulam District Pre-Feasibility Report 2.0 INTRODUCTION 2.1 Identification of Project Proponent and project Proponent Applicant Details Name and Address Mr. Saji Sebastian Madeckal House, Kizhakkambalam P.O, Ernakulam District, Kerala State- 683 562 Phone Number 9447184289 E-mail [email protected] Status Individual Type of Mining Open cast semi-mechanized Period of Mining The period of mining is required for 3 years Mr. M.D. Kuriakose, residing at Medeckal House, Kizhakkambalam Post, Ernakulam District has applied for grant of Environmental Clearance from the Hon’ble DEIAA, Ernakulam District for the proposed Granite Building stone located in Survey No. 66/3 of Arakuzha Village, Muvattupuzha Taluk, Ernakulam District, Kerala. The mining lease applied for the quarry is for a period of 3 years. This mine has already worked in past years. The proponent has already obtained quarry lease for 10 years vide proceeding No. Rc. No. 709/2009-2010/786/M3/2010 dated 26.03.2010 from the DMG. The lease deed was executed on 23.11.2009 and the lease will expire on 22.11.2019. Now, applicant has Prepared and submitting the Mining Plan for a period of Three Years and is approved by the District Geologist, DMG. 2.2 Brief description of nature of the project The area applied for quarry lease is almost a hilly terrain with elevation ranges from 87- 117m above mean sea level. Water table is noticed at a depth of 21-38m from the surface in the adjacent open wells of the area. The Geological Reserves is estimated as 275134 M3 (687835 MT) and Mineable Reserves is estimated as are 59750 M3 (149375 MT) and recoverable reserves is estimated as 56762 M³ 2 Granite Building Stone Quarry of Mr. Saji Sebastian Sy. No. 66/3 of Arakuzha Village, Muvattupuzha Taluk, Ernakulam District Pre-Feasibility Report (141905 MT) of Granite Building Stone after leaving necessary safety distance from the lease boundary as indicated in the precise area letter and relevant mining laws in force. The average proposed rate of production of Granite Building Stone is about 56762 M3 (141905 MT)/3 = 18921 M3 (47302 MT) per year for Applied Lease area. The Average proposed production of Granite Building Stone per day is about 47302 MT/260days = 181.93 MT by truck load is 181.93/8= 22.7 MT. 2.3 Need for the project and its importance to the country and or region The major need of building stone is due to high compressive strength and durability (among the hardest, dimensional & structural stones) it can effectively withstand the vagaries of nature. Fine-grained granite is employed for ornamental and monumental. Works as well as for inscription purposes. The mineral –rich colours, and the hardness & density, makes its useful for many applications. The proposed mining project will fulfill its end uses in buildings and constructions, bridges, paving, monuments and many other exterior projects. Polished slabs and titles are used in countertops, flooring, retaining walls and landscaping around a centre are used in countertops, flooring, retaining walls and landscaping around a centre fountain / pond, staircase and many other design elements (residential and commercial applications). It is also known as the maintenance – free stone. The mining and associated activities in the mineral bearing areas bring about gains in gross domestic product, ie. There is though a minor contribution by the proposed project but will add to the gains in G.D.P (Gross Domestic Product). A total of 37 people will be employed in the mine. It will create employment (though marginally) for local population. Applicant will pay royalty for the mineral produced from the mine, direct and indirect taxes will be paid thereby contributing to the regional revenue. The public revenue will further be put for infrastructure development and other sectors like health, education and social welfare. 3 Granite Building Stone Quarry of Mr. Saji Sebastian Sy. No. 66/3 of Arakuzha Village, Muvattupuzha Taluk, Ernakulam District Pre-Feasibility Report 2.4 Demand – Supply Gap Since it is main raw material in construction project. It is always in demand. So the proposed mining project will fulfill its end users in local market, as it is always in good demand in construction projects. 2.5 Imports / Exports Building stone explored from the mines will be used in the local areas in construction activities like roads, building and railways. The mineral produced from the proposed mine will be sent to the crusher plant located near the quarry site for crushing it to required size before dispatching it to the end use. 2.6 Export possibility No export businesses are taken in this project. 2.7 Domestic/ export markets The rough stone produced will be sold in local market, which is in turn used for construction purposes. 2.8 Employment Generation due to the project Around 23 employees will be engaged in the mines after the expansion and required manpower for mining operation is given in Table 2 – 1. 1. Advancement of active quarry face should be a top to bottom approach. Mine/Quarry workings are from top to bottom as specified. 2. Benches should not be oriented in straight line but should follow the topography as agreed in the proposal. The benches are in oval shape following the natural topography of the area. II. General Conditions: (i) Rain water harvesting to collect and utilize the entire water falling in land should be provided. The drainage system is made to divert the rain water to the disused quarry at the bottom level and has a large capacity of storage. The water thus collected is used for sprinkling on haulage road for dust suppression and also for the raising of plantation. (ii) Environment Monitoring Cell as agreed under the affidavit filed by the proponent should be formed and made functional. Environment Monitoring Cell is constituted and working as per the requirement. (iii) Suitable avenue trees should be planted along either side of the tarred road and open parking areas, if any, inclusive of approach road and internal roads. We have purchased 500 tree saplings from the Forest Nursery viz., Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur and planted along the haulage road and other places to reduce the dust propagation.
