  • Atlanta Braves Clippings Monday, June 29, 2020 Braves.Com
Atlanta Braves Clippings Monday, June 29, 2020 Braves.com Braves set player pool; 4 spots remain By Mark Bowman ATLANTA -- Less than three weeks after being drafted, Jared Shuster was placed in the 60-man player pool the Braves submitted to Major League Baseball on Sunday afternoon. Shuster is not expected to make his MLB debut this year. But his inclusion on this list creates the opportunity for him to spend the next couple of months working out with some of the top members of the Braves’ development staff. First and foremost, these 60-man player pools were designed for teams to designate which members of their organization will be eligible for the 60-game regular season, which is slated to begin on July 23 or 24. But with a Minor League season this year seeming unlikely, teams also chose to fill some of these spots with their top prospects. The Braves’ pool actually includes each of their top 12 prospects (per MLB Pipeline’s rankings). But only two or three of those prospects has a shot of being added to Atlanta’s active roster at some point this year. The members of this prospect group who could be used by Atlanta this year include outfielders Cristian Pache and Drew Waters, right-handers Ian Anderson, Kyle Wright, Bryse Wilson, Jasseel De La Cruz and Huascar Ynoa, and left-handers Kyle Muller and Tucker Davidson. Shuster, a left-handed pitcher taken in this year's Draft with the 25th overall pick out of Wake Forest, is part of the group of prospects added to this list just to get some experience this year.

The Boston Red Sox Sunday, May 30, 2021 * The Boston Globe Nate Eovaldi, bullpen stellar as Red Sox take second straight win over Marlins Peter Abraham Adam Ottavino punched his fist into his glove and let out a yell as he marched off the mound in the seventh inning Saturday. The righthander even flexed on his way to the dugout, the veins popping in his neck as the fans at Fenway Park roared. Ottavino uncharacteristically went the full Hulk Hogan for a few seconds after striking out Miami Marlins cleanup hitter Garrett Cooper to leave the bases loaded. “Kind of an out-of-body experience there. Glad I was able to make the pitch and just kind of blacked out,” Ottavino said after the Red Sox finished off a 3-1 victory. Credit an assist to the crowd of 25,089, the largest at Fenway Park since the final game of the 2019 season. “That was awesome. The crowd brought it today. That’s what’s been missing at those two-strike moments at home,” Ottavino said. “Feels like that puts a lot of pressure on the hitter.” On the day Massachusetts rescinded its pandemic protocols, the ballpark was abuzz despite the cold, wet, and windy weather. “A lot of energy out there, a lot of excitement. I know the guys were really feeding off that,” said bench coach Will Venable, who managed the team with Alex Cora attending his daughter’s high school graduation. “A couple of guys came into the dugout and we’re talking about how electric it was.” They have a team worth supporting.

  • Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Game Notes
JACKSONVILLE JUMBO SHRIMP GAME NOTES Montgomery Biscuits (7-4, 44-37) at Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (3-8, 31-48) Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp – Double-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins Proud Member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Southern League Champions 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014 Tuesday July 3, 2018 – 7:05 p.m. Bragan Field at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville – Jacksonville, Florida MTG: Opener/RHP J.D. Martin (4-9, 5.16) vs. Shrimp: RHP Jeff Brigham (3-0, 0.35) Game #80 – Home Game #39 (15-23) Last Game: Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Nick Neidert and Biscuits right-hander Sam McWilliams each pitched eight brilliant innings, but Montgomery first baseman Nate Lowe’s first-inning, two-out RBI double gave his team its fifth straight victory, 1-0, in front of 2,676 on Half-Price Yuengling Monday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Biscuits (7-4 second half, 44-37 overall) took a first-inning lead with an unearned run against Nick Neidert (7-5). Left fielder Thomas Milone hit a leadoff ground ball to first baseman Eric Jagielo, whose error allowed Milone to reach first base. Center fielder Nick Solak grounded into a fielder’s choice, before Lowe hit a two-out RBI double to left field. From the second through seventh innings, Neidert faced the minimum 18 batters, allowing a pair of Solak singles but eliminating the baserunner with a double play each time. In the eighth inning, right fielder Nathan Lukes hit a leadoff single and advanced on a sacrifice and wild pitch before being stranded at third base.
