1 Brio Program Overview

About Brio The Brio Youth Training Company is a ten-month developmental program preparing young circus artists to pursue the joy and wonder of circus with greater intensity. Brio company members will have the opportunity to work with professional performers and world-class instructors to build skills and explore the limitless world of circus arts. Our overarching goal is to facilitate the progression of circus skills, creativity, and professionalism, at an appropriate level for the development of our students within a program that is engaging, challenging, growth-oriented, and fun. The structure is designed to be clear— with three levels of intensity—yet flexible enough to respond to individuals’ needs.

Candidates should have a background in movement disciplines such as dance, gymnastics, martial arts, parkour, diving, ice skating, or circus, and a desire to bring their passion for the circus arts to the next level. Ideal Brio company members are ages 8 to 18 and interested in exploring the possibilities of circus arts; members may be looking forward towards next steps such as circus college, or may just be excited to work with a community of creative and dedicated young artists! The program is currently designed to adjust to the safest training environment, whether a hybrid of online and small in-studio lessons, or full in-studio classes; see program details below for further information. If there is a need to go fully online, we will address any necessary program and cost changes at that time.

Training Levels:

Brio Junior Training Program Students in grade levels 3-7 can expect to train approximately 6 hours per week, in a well-balanced program that includes handstands, tumbling, acro, flexibility / contortion, aerial, and dance, in addition to weekly company rehearsals, as well as team bonding opportunities, guest artist workshops, potential performance opportunities, and discounted classes, workshops, and lessons!

Brio Core Training Program The Brio Core training program for students in grade levels 8-12 includes a wide variety of general and specialty classes, weekly company rehearsals, team bonding opportunities, guest artist workshops, potential performance opportunities, and discounted classes, workshops, and lessons. In addition to the benefits of the Junior program, Core members add a specific handbalancing class as well as an additional dance class.

Brio Intensive Training Program In addition to the Core training program elements, Brio Intensive members, grade levels 8-12, choose an elective and a private lesson to increase their focus and immersion. The Intensive training program is designed for the budding performer who has a specific apparatus they prefer to work on, or who simply wants more one-on-one training and performance preparation.

2 Brio Program Details and Tuition

The program will run in ten 1-month sessions; prior to the start of each month we will determine at what level our studio may be open for training in accordance with government ordinances and with the safety of our students and staff held in the highest consideration. Each month will fall into one of the two following categories:

*Company rehearsal will include disciplines such as theater, guest instructors in core proficiencies, show preparation, act creation, photo shoots, etc. and may occasionally be extended for time.

** Dance class(es) will include some combination of those four main disciplines.
