This is your opportunity to actively contribute to the running and success of our great Club. Everyone (over the age of 18) is welcome and encouraged to attend and become more involved in our Club. All Club positions are declared vacant during the AGM and then filled for the 2020 year. All nominations for Coaching, Manager and Committee positions need to be emailed to the President - Natasha Clayton <[email protected]> by Friday, 16th October 2019. We hope you enjoyed season 2019, and look forward to seeing you at the AGM and in season 2020. Natalie Hanlen Secretary Penshurst RSL Panthers JAFC 4 2019 Penshurst RSL Panthers JAFC Yearbook President’s Report In my first season as Club President, it has been extremely rewarding to be able to support the ongoing development of our club with the support of the wonderful committee members. With a fresh new look this year, we hit the road running and never stopped. I would like to thank all those who have taken on the roles and assisted me. Next season, our club is well placed to maintain the level of achievement it has established this year. As in any organisation, success and enjoyment is not a matter of coincidence or ‘good luck’, it’s a result of hard work, good management and leadership. Success can be recognised in a variety of ways, at times with a trophy and at other times it’s simply about acknowledging that what has been achieved is significant and is shared and valued amongst many just the same. The season started with fantastic news and the announcement of a grant that we were able to secure with help of Mr. Mark Coure, MP for Oatley to make repairs to Olds 2. This will include irrigation, levelling and re turfing, with a slight field rotation. With a bit of luck we have been told that this should be completed by the start of the 2020 season. Our registration numbers were significantly up in both Auskick and Junior‘s, meeting the AFL’s requirements and targets. This allowed us as a Club to fill all age groups, with the only exception of the under 18YG. Laurence Nguyen & Penshurst St Physiotherapy came on board this year and provided the club with much needed assistance on and off the field each and every week. We were thrilled and extremely grateful for all the support we were given and look forward to an ongoing partnership. We were lucky to have 4 players from the Sydney Swans come out and mingle with our juniors, during the year which was a treat for all. Ben Ronke visited early on in the season, followed by Toby Pink, Tom McCartin and Harry Reynolds who were all very accommodating and happy to stick around. The Youth Girls Teams were also privileged to get a visit from Haneen Zreika from the GWS Giants. No matter how it is achieved, in team sport, success comes about by effective preparation, enormous effort and a belief in us as a team, beyond individual efforts. The success that Penshurst RSL Panthers JAFC has enjoyed in 2019 has been enormous in many ways and none more so than the on field success of the U13’s, who won their 3RD Grand Final in a row & U14YG’s, who won the Clubs 1ST Grand Final in a Youth Girls Competition. The outstanding efforts of the under 11’s, 12’s div. 2 and 12YG’s teams, who were all Runners Up in their respective Grand Final matches is a testament to all. Auskick Gala day was another success story and we can’t forget our under 9 and under 10 teams. They have continued to further the foundations of ‘Aussie Rules’ football in our community with a strong focus on relations and enjoyment within the club. There have however been other achievements by teams within our club, achievements for which there are no medals or trophies but achievements no less significant and worth mentioning. Consider our under 14’s team, which struggled with a lack of on field ‘scoreboard’ success. As a team, their success was in their determination and willingness to maintain a team focus and effort and continuing to turn up in numbers to training. A tough ask when you know there will be no ‘prize at the end of the day as a measure of your effort. These boys learnt the important values, enjoyment of training nights together and game day comradery. The Panthers were again represented heavily in most South Teams & even a City Team during the JS Sports Development and Representative Carnival that took place at West Hoxton. Congratulations to all nominated and selected players. Well done to all that are in the in the Swans Academy and those who tried out as well. You should all be proud of yourselves. It was good to see the ‘Club of the Year’ trophy come back home this year, awarded in August at the Kieran Jack Awards night. On top of that, we were also well represented in all categories throughout the night, with many players collecting awards. This is a show in strength of our Club, and the players we produce. On a final note, can I please take this opportunity to thank the outgoing committee members, Louise Grady & Allan McGregor as well as all volunteers and parents who have supported us throughout this season and over the years and who have brought enormous dedication, professionalism, leadership and expertise to our great club. I will also like to wish our players, families, supporters and sponsors all the best in the off season and once again to convey my gratitude for your efforts in 2019. Hope to see you all back in 2020, for what promises to be an even bigger, better & more exciting year ahead! Natasha Clayton President 2019 Penshurst RSL Panthers JAFC Yearbook 5 Football Manager’s Report PENSHURT PANTHERS 2019 SEASON The clubs player numbers continue to grow, particularly Auskick and in the girls’ competitions, with many first year AFL players joining the club in 2019. 2019 TEAMS In addition to Auskick, the club had over 250 registered players and entered 5 non-competition teams and 10 competition teams in the Sydney Harbour Junior AFL competitions.
