BODY The 13 Best Body Lotions of All Time, According to Doctors We tapped the pros to get their expert picks. By Olivia Wohlner, Editorial Assistant · Mar 9, 2021 t’s pretty easy to remember to apply your daily facial moisturizer each morning, especially if it’s got built-in block that will help shield your skin from harmful UV rays. However, it’s defi- nitely safe to say that we often forget to give the skin on our body the same attention and Icare as our face. While that deeply moisturizing body wash can definitely keep your skin feeling smooth with each wash, it may not be enough to stand tall against those rough spots and dry patches. With that in mind, we tapped the skin-care pros to break down the eight best body lotions of all time. 1/12 AFA Advanced Body Lotion ($88) “This body lotion is specifically designed for areas of the body with visible sun damage, and it improves moisture retention, elasticity and skin texture,” says Omaha, NE dermatologist Joel Schlessinger, MD. “Formulated with afaLUXE technology, L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and Dead Sea minerals, this body lotion offers an effective treatment for minimizing hyperpigmentation and sun damage on areas such as the hands, arms, back and chest.” 2/12 Avène XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Cream ($34) While describing the benefits of this skin-silkening cream, Miami dermatologist Dr. Deborah Longwill pins this product as her “all-time favorite.” “The Lipid-Replenishing Cream helps moisturize and soothe the skin while strengthening the skin’s barrier over time.

    Acne-Patient-Handout-1

Acne Acne is the most common skin disorder affecting more than 80% of people at some time between the ages of 11 and 30. Causes Acne is due to plugging of the oil glands (a.k.a. sebaceous follicles) with an overproduction of oil (sebum) and cells that are naturally sloughing off of the skin. This combination of events produces white heads and black heads. To make things worse, there are normal bacteria that live on our skin called Propionibacterium acnes that grows well on this environment and causes little, micro infections. These little areas of infection are pimples. Acne begins in puberty when hormones stimulate your oil glands to produce more sebum (the oil that plugs your pores). Basic Skin Care 1. Wash your skin twice a day with a mild cleanser such as Dove. The most important time to wash is at bedtime. Avoid scrubbing your skin because it irritates the opening of the oil glands and can cause them to close. 2. Dry skin is just as bad as oily skin in terms of causing acne. If your skin is dry, use an oil-free, hypoallergenic moisturizer with sunscreen like Cetaphil. 3. Shampoo your hair daily. Long hair can make acne worse by rubbing against your skin. Also avoid hair gels, creams, and tonics. When you sweat, these substances will spread to your face and aggravate your acne. 4. Avoid Picking. Picking stops acne from healing. 5. No changes in diet are necessary. Chocolate and oily foods do not cause acne. This is a myth. Treatment ACNE ALWAYS LOOKS WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER.

DERMATOLOGISTS SHARE SKIN CARE TIPS for PEOPLE with VITILIGO June Is Vitiligo Awareness Month

DERMATOLOGISTS SHARE SKIN CARE TIPS FOR PEOPLE WITH VITILIGO June is Vitiligo Awareness Month ROSEMONT, Ill. (June 11, 2019) — Millions of people worldwide have vitiligo, a condition that causes the skin to lose its natural color, resulting in patches of light skin. Although the white or light patches do not typically cause other symptoms, the condition can cause low self-esteem and depression in patients—of whom nearly half develop vitiligo before the age of 21. Although there is no cure for vitiligo, dermatologists from the American Academy of Dermatology say there is a lot patients can do at home to make vitiligo less visible and help prevent the condition from spreading. “Many people with vitiligo do not have any other signs or symptoms and feel completely healthy,” says board-certified dermatologist Anisha Patel, MD, FAAD. “However, the change in appearance caused by vitiligo can affect people emotionally, especially those who are younger and more concerned about their appearance. The good news is that there are things patients can do at home to make the condition more manageable.” To help vitiligo patients care for their skin, Dr. Patel recommends the following tips: 1. Protect your skin from the sun. Exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays increases your risk of skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form. Since vitiligo skin can burn more easily, it’s important to protect your skin whenever you’re outdoors. To do this, seek shade, wear protective clothing—including a lightweight, long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses—and apply sunscreen to all areas of the body not covered by clothing.

  • Acne Treatment

    Acne Treatment

Acne Treatment What causes acne - Acne is caused by clogged and infected hair follicles. - The hair follicles have attached oil glands that over produce oil. - The oils get infected with bacteria. - This results in the appearance of pimples. Things that make acne worse - Tight headbands, helmets or wool hats. - Greasy lotions, hair products, and oily makeup. - Grease-filled air in restaurant kitchens — if you work in this type of environment, be sure to wash your face when you get home. - Stress. When you’re emotionally stressed your body makes extra hormones that can cause breakouts. - There is no evidence that eating chocolate or certain foods makes your acne worse. How to care for your skin - Don’t pick or scrub at your acne. This makes it worse! - Wash you face in the morning and before bed with a mild synthetic detergent. Some examples are Cera-ve or Cetaphil facial cleansers and Dove (Sensitive Skin Bar). These are less drying than soaps. - Sunscreen is essential while you are using acne medication as it makes your skin sensitive to the sun. - EVERY day use a moisturizer that has SPF 30 or greater and is non-comedogenic (does not block pores). - Use make-up that is non-comedogenic (does not clog pores- water based skin care products). - Be sure to wear a hat when in the sun. General acne treatment information - It will take 6-8 weeks of consistent acne treatment before your acne gets better. - Your acne can get worse before it gets better. - Start your topical medication slowly as it can irritate the skin.

Cosmetic Dermatologic Skin Care: the Essence of Our Training

Review Cosmetic Dermatologic Skin Care: The Essence of Our Training Lori Spencer, MD, PhD; Suzan Obagi, MD Most cosmetic dermatologists and patients would agree that many cosmetic procedures are per- formed to repair signs of extrinsic aging, namely actinic-induced aging, as well as intrinsic aging effects. Although many patients turn to surgical procedures or lasers, light peels, or microdermabrasion for ablative and nonablative rejuvenation, there is merit to the idea that a well-designed topical skin care regimen, in the right patient, yields results that parallel those achieved with more invasive procedures. Central to this idea are the choice and combination of products, as well as patient compliance with their proper use. In this article we detail topical skin care regimens and provide photographic docu- mentation of the benefits of a well-designed daily regimen. This thesis examines the feasibility of creating a male cosmetic company. The objective of this report is to investigate solutions to the questions, “Could there truly be a market for male cosmetics, and if so, how do you promote cosmetic adoption across genders?” Beginning with a literature review examining the history of cosmetics through time, the changing social dynamics and drivers supporting the cosmetic industry’s expansion, and the existence of male cosmetic trends internationally, the groundwork is laid in support of validating the author’s predictions on shifting market trends. What follows is a feasibility assessment, presented in the format of a business plan, dissecting various cosmetic industries, potential markets, customer analyses, sales strategies, and financial planning. Included within the financial planning segment are a startup cost projection, a three- year profit and loss pro forma, a Net Present Value (NPV) calculation, and a break-even analysis.
