BOYNE VALLEY PROVINCIAL PARK One Malaise trap was deployed at Boyne Valley Provincial Park in 2014 (44.11563, -80.12777, 468m ASL; Figure 1). This trap collected arthropods for twenty weeks from April 28 – September 19, 2014. All 10 Malaise trap samples were processed; every other sample was analyzed using the individual specimen protocol while the second half was analyzed via bulk analysis. A total of 1571 BINs were obtained. Over half the BINs captured were flies (Diptera), followed by bees, ants and wasps (Hymenoptera), moths and butterflies (Lepidoptera), and beetles (Coleoptera; Figure 2). In total, 427 arthropod species were named, representing 29% of the BINs from the site (Appendix 1). All BINs were assigned at least to Figure 1. Malaise trap deployed at Boyne Valley family, and 66.6% were assigned to a genus (Appendix Provincial Park in 2014. 2). Specimens collected from Boyne Valley represent 183 different families and 558 genera. Figure 2. Taxonomy breakdown of BINs captured in the Malaise trap at Boyne Valley. APPENDIX 1. • Moths of Poole Harbour Species List
Moths of Poole Harbour is a project of Birds of Poole Harbour Moths of Poole Harbour Species List Birds of Poole Harbour & Moths of Poole Harbour recording area The Moths of Poole Harbour Project The ‘Moths of Poole Harbour’ project (MoPH) was established in 2017 to gain knowledge of moth species occurring in Poole Harbour, Dorset, their distribution, abundance and to some extent, their habitat requirements. The study area uses the same boundaries as the Birds of Poole Harbour (BoPH) project. Abigail Gibbs and Chris Thain, previous Wardens on Brownsea Island for Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT), were invited by BoPH to undertake a study of moths in the Poole Harbour recording area. This is an area of some 175 square kilometres stretching from Corfe Castle in the south to Canford Heath in the north of the conurbation and west as far as Wareham. 4 moth traps were purchased for the project; 3 Mercury Vapour (MV) Robinson traps with 50m extension cables and one Actinic, Ultra-violet (UV) portable Heath trap running from a rechargeable battery. This was the capability that was deployed on most of the ensuing 327 nights of trapping. Locations were selected using a number of criteria: Habitat, accessibility, existing knowledge (previously well-recorded sites were generally not included), potential for repeat visits, site security and potential for public engagement. Field work commenced from late July 2017 and continued until October. Generally, in the years 2018 – 2020 trapping field work began in March/ April and ran on until late October or early November, stopping at the first frost.

Silva Gabreta vol. 17 (2-3) p. 83–132 Vimperk, 2011 Buterflies and moths (Lepidoptera) of the Blanice National Nature Monument (Bohemian Forest, Czech Republic) Jan Šumpich CZ-58261 Česká Bělá 212, Czech Republic [email protected] Abstract This paper summarises data on butterflies and moths occurring in the Blanice National Nature Monument (NNM) including its buffer zone (Bohemian Forest, Šumava Protected Landscape Area, southern Bohe- mia). Most of the presented data were gathered during surveys carried out by the author in 2008–2009. Further data, spanning the period 1972–2009, were kindly provided by other lepidopterologists. In addition, all published data have also been included in the study. In 2008 the author focused mainly on wetland habitats in the Blanice River floodplain, moving in 2009 to mountain coniferous forests in the NNM’s buffer zone. In total, 710 moth species are presented in the paper together with phenological data, where known, and the exact location of their records. Predominant habitat types are characterized by the lepidop- teran communities recorded therein. High species diversity was observed in wetland habitats near the Blanice River and the occurrence of many typical wetland species was confirmed there, e.g., Sterrhopterix standfussi (Wocke, 1851), Epermenia falciformis (Haworth, 1828), Orthonama vittata (Borkhausen, 1794), or Hypenodes humidalis Doubleday, 1850. Species-rich lepidopteran fauna of mountain forests in the buff- er zone were typified by Nemapogon picarellus (Clerck, 1759), Ypsolopha nemorella (Linnaeus, 1758), Anchinia daphnella (Dennis & Schiffermüller, 1775), Caryocolum klosi (Rebel, 1917), C. cassellum (Walk- er, 1864), Epinotia pusillana (Peyerimhoff, 1863), Elophos vittarius (Thunberg, 1788), Entephria infidaria (La Harpe, 1853), Perizoma taeniatum (Stephens, 1831), Phlogophora scita (Hübner, 1790), or Xestia colli- na (Boisduval, 1840).

  • 2017 Annual Moth Report
Introduction 2017 was a remarkable year for many reasons. First and foremost the courage and sheer determination by Val to reach all of her targets was a total inspiration for everyone who came in contact with her. Without doubt these targets slowed her cancers progress and are a major factor in why she is still with us as this is written. As for the moths, it was an interesting and somewhat conflicting year. The number of species recorded was well up on the previous few years, but actual counts for some common species appeared slightly lower than in 2016. Our major targets of reaching sites in the South of Warwickshire that were terribly under-recorded took a huge step forward, enthusiastically aided by many helpful, cooperative farmers and landowners. Some memorable nights were had at these unfamiliar places, where many “new” moth species for all the attending recorders were found. That was due reward for everyone’s efforts to venture into these new territories. As with last year’s account, the following will include events that neither of us got to and the occasional explanation of why! We hope you enjoy the ride. January January’s main focus wasn’t really on moths. With Val’s birthday being on a Sunday, Alan had a “little” idea about inviting people to come and wish her Happy Birthday in person. Val knew nothing of Alan’s idea and as the day drew nearer he got increasingly stressed about the secret getting out! The number of people expected on the big day had got completely out of hand.

  • Kevésbé Ismert Magyarországi Coleophora Fajok Új Adatai New Records of Lesser-Known Coleophora Species from Hungary (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae)
Microlepidoptera.hu 10: 29–56. (2015) 29 Kevésbé ismert magyarországi Coleophora fajok új adatai New records of lesser-known Coleophora species from Hungary (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) Buschmann Ferenc & Ignác Richter Abstract: The authors present distributional data of 53 Coleophora species less known in Hungary. One part of the records originates from the Coleophora collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum. These records became available during curatorial work as they were unpublished. The other part is based on records of specimens collected by Ferenc Buschmann and further contempo- rary collectors. With a few exceptions the identifications based on genitalia were done by Ignatius Richter, who dissected the specimens. Keywords: Lepidoptera, Microlepidoptera, Coleophora species, new records, Hungary.

  • Bohemian Forest, Czech Republic)
