Staff team volunteer days

• Established in 2001 AMC is a thriving community project. The Gardens are a green oasis within walking distance of City Centre. • Volunteers would spend the day in the community gardens to support with a wide range of tasks such as harvesting crops, cutting back vegetation, clearing pathways, painting sheds and maybe a little weeding too! Some prep for Open Days, Food Fairs might be needed as well. • Activity is dependent on the time of year and of course the weather!

• This project officially opened its gates in July 2012 as a result of the views from local residents living in Bulwell Forest as this land was not being used. • Volunteers would spend the day in the community gardens to support with a wide range of tasks including fence painting, composting, bulb planting, planting soft fruit trees, and construction of raised beds plus general maintenance. • Activity is dependent on the time of year and of course the weather!

• Various sites across including: Newark, Nottingham Beeston Canal, Erewash Canal, Trent , Tinkers Leen, Gunthorpe Lock and the . • Tasks are seasonal and weather dependent but can include painting canal features, hedgerow management, litter control, vegetation management, gardening and controlling invasive species. • Some specific projects may be available for your chosen day.

• The Foodshare garden is a fully functioning allotment, started in 2014 it grows 26 different types of food. • Volunteers would spend the day at allotment to support with a wide range of tasks such as planting, cutting back vegetation, weeding, and fruit and vegetable harvesting! • Activity is dependent on the time of year and of course the weather!

• The Nottingham Unit, TS Orion, was formed in 1940 with premises in the City Centre, moving to this site in 1947. Their core aim is to celebrate Britain's maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people aged between 10-18yrs old as Sea Cadets. • Volunteers would spend the day either painting, maintaining groundworks or doing general maintenance. • Activity is dependent on the time of year and of course the weather but there is plenty to do both indoors and out!

• EXAMPLE • Beeston Sidings Nature Reserve • Creation of a woodland path, tree lopping, wildflower maintenance, path clearance, coppicing of smaller trees, strimming back, raking nettles/brambles and blackberry picking!

• REACH Learning Disability is an English grown cut flower business called ‘Flower Pod’ based at Brackenhurst Campus. They offer land based training and a day service for their clients: adults with learning disabilities. This supports them in achieving and sustaining the best possible quality of life within their local community. • Volunteers can spend the day stone picking, path forming, weeding, planting, hedge cutting, digging, planting bulbs, cutting flowers, or decorating, cleaning windows, varnishing doors. • Activity is dependent on the time of year and of course the weather!

• Stonebridge City Farm is a small slice of the countryside in the heart of the City of Nottingham! Free to visit and open every day, they have lots of animals; gardens and polytunnels where they grow fruit, vegetables and herbs, and even produce honey; a nature walk where you can see a number of wild birds and butterflies; and amenities such as the café, shop and toilets. • Volunteers spend the day in the farm weeding vegetable plots, clearing paths, making compost bins, painting fences, etc. • Activity is dependent on the time of year and you can order a great lunch in the cafe!

• This is Clifton’s first community garden and provides a relaxing environment for local residents and community groups to grow fruit and vegetables in a fun and sociable way. • Volunteers would spend the day in the community gardens to support with a wide range of tasks such as harvesting crops, cutting back vegetation, clearing pathways, painting sheds and maybe a little weeding too! • Activity is dependent on the time of year and of course the weather!
