STALLIONS 2021 Welcome to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs 2021 Dear Breeders, 2020 has been a year like no other and Coronavirus continues to disrupt so much of what we once considered normal. Fortunately, the 2020 covering season was able to proceed in line with government guidelines and, up to the time of writing, all National Hunt Store Sales, the Breeze Up and the majority of the Flat Yearling Sales have taken place. We hope that the 2021 season can also proceed without excessive disruption. Going forward it would seem that now more than ever breeders will need to focus on quality and value when considering their 2021 mating plans and we hope that the contents of this brochure will be of assistance to you in this regard. In a curtailed racing year ACCLAMATION’S progeny had another successful year with twelve individual Group or Stakes performers. Furthermore, he has consolidated his growing reputation as a successful sire of sires with his latest freshman stallion, Mehmas, well on top in all categories of the First Season Sires Table. 2020 was always going to be a very competitive year for First Season Flat Sires in GB & Ireland as over 30 horses retired to stud in 2017. Therefore it is a remarkable achievement for KODI BEAR to be lying in second place by number of individual winners, races won and prize money earned at the beginning of November. His stock has inherited their sire’s size and scope and with the support he has received from breeders every year, it augers well for his future stallion success. The team at Rathbarry began 2020 with a great sense of anticipation in preparation for the arrival of the first foals by the beautifully bred JAMES GARFIELD and I am delighted to say they have not disappointed. The foals we have seen are well balanced individuals with a loose athletic walk, which bodes well for breeders selling his progeny at the forthcoming sales. Once again we would like to assure mare owners that TAGULA is fresh and well and he will be available again in 2021 to cover a restricted book of mares. Rathbarry Stud’s original reputation was based on its National Hunt Stallions and this tradition has been proudly maintained at Glenview Stud. Considering the success of BLUE BRESIL’S progeny on the racetrack and in the sales ring, it was no surprise how popular he proved to be with the breeders upon his arrival, covering a full book of high quality mares in 2020. We look forward to seeing the first Glenview crop by MALINAS, rising 4 y-o’s in 2021, appearing on the racecourse during the year. We are confident that they will continue to build on the promise of his previous British and French bred progeny such as Mister Malarky, Mighty Thunder, Medinas, Harambe, Union Dues etc. SHOLOKHOV and SHIROCCO’s first Irish crops have certainly caught the eye on the racecourse, included amongst them multiple Graded Winners as well as Supreme Novice Hurdle Champion Shiskin etc. With each horse having covered quality books of mares at Glenview Stud every year, they will have no shortage of well bred runners on the track for the future. Since his arrival at Glenview Stud in 2018, YOUMZAIN has been very well supported by breeders covering quality books of mares each season. His supporters have been delighted with the excellent quality and confirmation of his foals, which was reflected in their prices at the sales. Finally, we have an exciting addition to our National Hunt Roster for 2021, OLD PERSIAN. This beautifully bred son of Dubawi was the winner at 2, 3 & 4 years of 6 Stakes Races and nearly 4 million euros. Described by Timeform as “A big strong colt; very smart performer”, he possesses all the attributes which National Hunt breeders demand for their mares. On behalf of the team at Rathbarry & Glenview, we would like to thank all our clients for their continued support, and we wish you a safe and successful breeding and racing season in 2021.
