Federer won on Tuesday 75 62 and leads the all-time FedEx ATP Head 2 Head 22-21. This is their eighth meeting of the season (Djokovic leads 4-3).The duo have combined to win 10 of the last 12 season-ending titles between them with Federer a record six-time champion and Djokovic a four-time winner, including the last three. Federer is appearing in a tournament record 10th final and Djokovic his fifth. Djokovic is trying to become the first player to win four straight season finale titles in the tournament’s 46-year history. They have reached the final for a second straight year and third in four years at The O2. The last time two players reached the final back-to-back years was Ivan Lendl and Boris Becker in 1985- 86. Lendl won both times. In the doubles final, the No. 1 duo in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings, No. 2 seeds Jean- Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau meet No. 8 Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea, who did not qualify until the last day of the regular season on Nov. 8. Rojer and Tecau, who have a 3-0 head-to-head advantage, wrapped up their first year-end No. 1 Emirates ATP Doubles Team Ranking with a 64 64 win over Bob and Mike Bryan on Saturday. They are 10-0 in London this season after winning the Wimbledon title and going undefeated so far in the tournament. Djokovic tied the series at 21-21 with a four-set win in the 2015 US Open final before Federer won here on Tuesday to regain the lead. Introduction The modern version of the game (official name of Lawn Tennis) as we recognize it today was designed and patented by Major Walter Clopton Wingfield in 1873. Two years later in 1875, the official rules of the game were drawn up by Marylebone Cricket Club, and two years later in 1877, Wimbledon began on a grass surface as the first official championships. All four grand slam events have been played on a grass surface. Wimbledon is the only grand slam event played on a grass court today and has always been played on a grass court surface. The French Open began in 1891 on a grass surface and remained on grass until 1928 when the surface was changed to clay. The US Open began in 1881 on a grass surface; until it was changed to clay from 1975-1977 and from 1978 has been played on a hard court surface. Finally, the Australian Open began in 1905 on a grass surface and remained on grass until 1988 when the surface was changed to a hard court. There has been a change in the proportion of tournaments played on different court surfaces from 1877 to 2010. Firstly, for the first 14 years of the game, all tournaments (grand slam and non grand slam) were played on grass. Secondly, for the first 101 years of the game all tournaments were played on the natural surfaces of grass and clay. Thirdly, according to the ITF, until the early 1970’s, the majority of tournaments were played on grass including three out of the four grand slams.

    Western & Southern Open Defending Champions Headline Doubles Fields CINCINNATI (Aug. 11, 2020) – Both the women’s and men’s defending champions are among the initial entries to play doubles at the 2020 Western & Southern Open, which will be held Aug. 20-28 at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in New York. The 2019 WTA doubles winners – Lucie Hradecka and Andreja Klepac – are joined by the ATP Tour champions – Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek – to headline the early entries. Other notable entries on the women’s side include the teenage pairing of Cincinnati’s 18-year-old Caty McNally and 16-year-old Coco Gauff. Dubbed “McCoco,” the duo won a pair of WTA titles in 2019 – at Washington, D.C. and Luxembourg – and reached the US Open Round of 16. Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka, who finished 2019 atop the WTA Porsche Race to Shenzen as the season’s No. 1 team, are also in the field. Reigning Australian Open singles champion Sofia Kenin, a 21-year- old American, has entered with former Western & Southern Open singles and doubles winner Victoria Azarenka. The top two teams in the ATP Tour doubles race are entered in the men’s draw. The No. 1 team of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah is returning after reaching two straight Western & Southern Open finals. This is one of four combined tournaments on the USTA Pro Circuit scheduled for 2007.
