BOSTON - Michael Harris, a native of Jamaica Plain and currently living in North EastoQ, Mass., has been elected to the Northeastern University Varsity Club Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of football. Harris, Class of 1979, will be inducted along with four others in formal ceremonies at Northeastern's in Boston, Mass. on Thursday, April14.

Twice an All-E.C.A.C. Division II All Star Team honoree, Harris started every game from 1974 to 1977 along the Husky offensive line.

In addition to earning a varsity letter in football at New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire, Harris lettered three years in football at West Roxbury's Catholic Memorial High School, from which he graduated in 1973 as a member of the All Lakes Region team. In 1972 at Catholic Memorial Harris was named to the All Catholic team and the Boston Herald American's All-Scholastic team. After being named to the 1973 Who's Who in National Athletics High School Football Yearbook, the Jamaica Plain native decided to stay close to home and join Bo Lyons' Northeastern Huskies.

At 6'3" and 245 pounds, the pro prospect started right out of the gate for the 6-4 Huskies of 1974; in his first game, a 14-7 win over Maine, Northeastern scored on its first drive on a quarterback sneak behind Harris' staunch run-blocking. As a sophomore in 1975 he first made the All-E.C.A.C Division II All-Star Team for his stellar line play. His junior year saw him named to the Associated Press All-New England Second Team for his outstanding play at offensive tackle. By his senior year, Harris had only to cement his legacy as one of the great blockers in Husky history - he delivered, earning a second All-E.C.A.C nod and a place on the Boston Herald American's All-New England team.

"Harris is one of the best we've ever had. He fits right there with the best of them," said head coach Bo Lyons in 1977. "He has excellent size, but his greatest asset is understanding and reading the defenses. He picks up defenses quickly and then makes the right type of block. He just never makes mistakes."

Although he went undrafted by the NFL out of Northeastern, Harris signed as a free agent with the New York Giants and enjoyed a brief pro career in 1978.

Since hanging up the spikes Harris has stayed active in the local football community. He volunteered as football coach for all three boys teams at Oliver Ames High School in Easton, Massachusetts, from 1997 to 2001; from 2002 to 2003 he served as president of the Gridiron Club of Easton.

Harris has been in the construction business since 1982; he currently owns and operates Construction Marketing Reps Inc., in North Easton. He is also president of the Northeast Consortium of Manufacturers Reps, which he founded in 2001. Harris lives in North Easton, Massachusetts, and has three children: Joshua, Daniel and Lamarr Monterio.

Joining Harris in NU's Hall of Fame Class of 2011 will be Crystal Corbeil-Muse (), Tim Daley (bas eball), Randy Bucyk (ice hockey), and Carolyn Sullivan (ice hockey).
