RockHounds Announce 2020 Banquet Speakers & Season Schedule Hall of Famer Andre Dawson & Former Dallas Cowboy Tony Hill to Headline Sports Banquet Induction into Cooperstown ... the Hall of Fame ... is one of the most remarkable achievements in all of sports. Andre Dawson earned his place among baseball’s all-time greats through a 21-year career in which he was one of the game’s most complete ... and best ... players. He will be the keynote speaker at the 2020 West Sports Banquet & Memorabilia Auction, Wednesday, February 5, at the Midland Country Club. He will be joined by special guest speaker Tony Hill. One of the greatest receivers in history, the three-time selection was a member of the Cowboy’s championship team in 1977 (Super Bowl XII). The banquet, inaugurated in 1991, has raised nearly a half-million dollars for local children’s charities since its inception and is the centerpiece of the RockHounds’ community commitment. The 2020 event will benefit the St. Ann’s School Athletic Fund, Case de Amigos and the RockHounds Scholarship Fund. Andre Dawson, nicknamed “the Hawk,” was an eight-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner and, speaking of “eights,” is one of only eight players in Major League history with 300 or more home runs and 300 or more stolen bases. He ranks 40th in RBI (1,591) and 45th in HR (438) in big league history. Andre spent his first 11 seasons (1976-86) with Montreal, but five of his eight All-Star selections came in six seasons with the . The first of those was 1987, when he was named the ’s Most Valuable Player. Tony Hill’s nicknames ... “The Thrill” & “Dial 80” ... stem from the explosive, big-play abilities that earned him three Pro Bowl selections. In addition to a Super Bowl ring, Tony was named to the Cowboys’ 50th Anniversary Team with 479 catches for nearly 8,000 yards (7,988) and 51 touchdowns. His career 8,072 total yards (rushing & receiving), rank fifth in Cowboys history, trailing only Tony Dorsett, , and Jason Witten. In addition to keynote speakers and special guests, the event includes: - Silent & “live” auctions of memorabilia (primarily, but not limited to, sports items) - Announcement of the RockHounds and Sockers FC Fans of the Year - Presentation of the Scott Seator Community Achievement Award, honoring an individual for outstanding contributions to our community through athletics.
