2009 UTSA Roadrunners Baseball Four-Time Southland Conference Champions Roadrunner Field

ow in its 17th season as the home of UTSA baseball, Roadrunner Field has become one of the top facilities in the Southland Conference after undergoing several Nrenovations the past four years. This past offseason, a new bermuda/rye mix playing surface was installed along with a berm down the right-field line. Two years ago, the warning track was replaced, new 40-foot foul poles were installed and bleacher wraps featuring the program’s championship teams, All-Americans and SLC award winners were added to the stands. The Roadrunners locker room, located in the P.E. Building, also was completely remodeled with wooden lockers (2x7x2 feet) and an entertainment center featuring a 50-inch high-definition plasma television. In fall 2006, the stadium was outfitted with lights, which enabled the program to play the first night games in school history. The lighting includes 112 fixtures on eight towers generating 100-foot candles of light in the infield and an average of 70 candles of light in the outfield. Other improvements included a new backstop and netting behind home plate. Those renovations came on the heels of a new scoreboard and outfield wall prior to the 2006 season. The wall measures eight feet in left and right field and extends to 16 feet in center. Built in 1992, “The Bird Bath” can accommodate 800 fans and includes an eight-person press box and three indoor batting cages down the left-field line. The dimensions are 335 feet down the left-field line, 375 feet to the power alleys, 405 feet to center and 340 feet down the right-field line. UTSA has a 216-123 (.637) all-time record at Roadrunner Field, including a school-record 23-6 mark in 1994 and perfect 10-0 slate in 2001. The program has posted three 16- win campaigns in a row at the facility (50-13/.794).
