Ameerega hahneli (Boulenger, 1884) Common name(s): no english name, kleine dijvlekkikker(Dutch) Dendrobates hahneli Boulenger, 1884, “1883”, Proc. Zool. Soc. London 1883: 636. Type locality: “Yurimaguas, Huallaga River, [Loreto,] Northern ”.

Short description

Max size is 24mm. Strongly resembles Allobates femoralis. The snout is short. The eardrum is not visible. No teeth on the jaws. The back is granulous but somewhat less compared to A. femoralis, the belly is smooth. The first finger is somewhat equal in length to the second, fingers and toes have no webbing. The iris is dark brown. The dorsal colour is black. A thin white dorsolateral line goes from the tip of the snout to the groin. A thin white line also goes from the lower lip ending at the shoulder. Lateral sides are black. A small spot at the armpit, yellow orangish in colour and another at the groin. The ventral colour is black brown, black riddled with light blue spots on the lateral and posterior sides. A yellow orange mark exists at the thighs, extends somewhat to the groin. Another spot, yellow orangish exists on the calf. hahneli differs from Allobates femoralis by its smaller size, the absence of teeth, the absence of webbing between the toes, the equal size of the first and second finger and the yellow to orange spot on the calf.

Distribution

Amazon Basin, extreme south of , , . Probably also in . Distribution in Suriname: only known from the southern part of Suriname. The more northern localities in the distribution map, Blanche Marie Falls and Nassau Mt., may be based on mistaken identification.
