Thanks are due to the many people I have had the good fortune to interact with both professionally and in my personal life. While the responsibility for the views expressed in this work rests solely with me, I owe a great debt of gratitude to many people and institutions. First, I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Priyambudi Sulistiyanto, who was my principal supervisor before he transferred to Flinders University in Australia. He has inspired my research on Islamic political parties in Southeast Asia since the beginning of my studies at NUS. After he left Singapore he patiently continued to give me advice and to guide me in finishing my thesis. Thanks go to him for his insightful comments and frequent words of encouragement. After the departure of Dr. Priyambudi, Prof. Reynaldo C. Ileto, who was a member of my thesis committee from the start of my doctoral studies in NUS, kindly agreed to take over the task of supervision. He has been instrumental in the development of my academic career because of his intellectual stimulation and advice throughout. -
Jawapan Kepada Semua Pengkritik Saya

DAP Using Hudud to Make People Hate PAS, Says Nik Abduh the Malaysian Insider March 24, 2015 by Elizabeth Zachariah
DAP using hudud to make people hate PAS, says Nik Abduh The Malaysian Insider March 24, 2015 By Elizabeth Zachariah PAS today accused its Pakatan Rakyat partner DAP of using the hudud issue to incite hatred towards the Islamist party. Its central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Aziz was commenting on DAP's decision to sever ties with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang over the implementation of the Islamic penal code. "DAP is using hudud to get Malaysians to hate PAS, to ensure PAS loses its support," he said to reporters at the Parliament lobby today. "DAP is using the hudud issue to push PAS out of Pakatan Rakyat (PR). I met several DAP leaders individually and told them not to allow the hudud issue be an excuse for us to break up." Earlier today, DAP said that although it would remain in PR, it was ending all ties with Hadi following the latter's decision to go against the coalition in tabling a Private Member's Bill on his own without discussing it with the rest of the leadership. "DAP is unable to work with a PAS president like Hadi Awang who persists in such dishonest and dishonourable acts," secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today. "As Hadi is the PAS leader in PR, DAP's decision to end all ties with Hadi will effectively put the PR leadership council in limbo. DAP will meet the PKR leadership to discuss the future course of PR." Lim later told reporters that Hadi should leave the opposition coalition if he insisted on implementing hudud in Kelantan. -

He was found guilty on both counts and sentenced, in 1999 and 2000 respectively, to a total of 15 years in prison. On 2 September 2004, the Federal Court quashed the conviction in the sodomy case and ordered Mr. Anwar Ibrahim’s release, as he had already served his sentence in the abuse of power case. When he first came to power in 2009, Najib Razak introduced several reforms in an attempt to win back votes after the fiasco for the ruling coalition in the 2008 general election. This attempt at reform has been reversed after yet another debacle for BN in the 2013 general election, epitomized by the about-turn decision on the promise to repeal the Sedition Act, with the Prime Minister seemingly bowing down to demands of extremist groups for his own political survival and bent on teaching dissenting voters a lesson. -
