Announcement of Film & Media Production Faculty Positions Communication & Design Program School of Arts, & Social Sciences

The Communication & Design Program at Habib , , , invites applications for a new full-time faculty position in Film & Media Production. The appointment will be made at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with the applicant’s credentials and experience.

We are looking for candidates with a minimum of an MFA degree, or equivalent terminal degree, and background in media production, cinematography, directing, screenwriting, post-production and/or similar fields. Candidates with a multi-disciplinary arts background with relevant experience, as well as media theory and history will also be considered.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate a commitment to teaching, creative productivity, developing the program, and advancing the program’s mission to integrate the study and production of media with the local community and context. Media educators with a teaching portfolio who can demonstrate an ability to teach a combination of practice-based studio classes and seminar courses; experience running communications, media and/or film program; broad demonstrable knowledge of media history and theory and/or an active practice that demonstrates expertise in at least one of the following: cinematography, direction, post-production/editing, will be given preference.

The Communication & Design Program has recently revised its undergraduate curriculum to meet the rapidly changing landscapes and demands of the communications and media industry in Pakistan, and a successful appointee will be expected to assume a key role at Habib University in leading the program and its delivery of new media and communications courses in collaboration with other faculty and external consultants. The Media and Communications concentration is an innovative undergraduate program that aims to introduce students to a variety of conceptual frameworks, theoretical texts and historic precepts of the field, while simultaneously providing them with a sound fundamental education in a host of practical and production skills needed to practice in the field.

Faculty is also required to participate in the activities, service, and life of the program, the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS), as well as the University at large.

The start date for positions is August 01 for Fall and January 01 for Spring. Depending on credentials and experience, candidates will be considered at the Lecturer, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor ranks as appropriate.

Successful candidates will teach courses and help shape academic pathways at the undergraduate level. For Lecturers the annual teaching load is 6 three-credit courses and for Assistant and Associate Professors the annual teaching load is 5 three-credit courses.
