FEBRUARY 2019 Vol. 04 | Issue 11 | MUMBAI | 32 Pages | Price: `10/- TH EDITORIAL 25 YEAR OF PRIESTLY ORDINATION CELEBRATION AT DIOCESE Pope Francis has continually emphasized the infinite mercy of a God who never tires of reaching out. Throughout his teachings, the Holy Father has put forth the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a gift that permits each one of us to encounter the mercy of God in a personal and profound way. “The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a Sacrament of healing. When I go to confession, it is in order to be healed, to heal my soul, to heal my heart and to be healed of some wrongdoing,” describes Pope Francis. (General Audience Feb. 2014). Pope Francis invites all to focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation as an important dimension of experiencing God’s mercy. The Holy Father says: “So many people, including young people, are returning to the Sacrament of Reconciliation; through this experience they are rediscovering a path back to the Lord, living a moment of intense prayer and finding meaning in their lives. Let us place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the centre once more in such a way that it will enable people to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with May the their own hands. For every penitent, it will be a source of true interior peace.” Grace and Peace (Misericordiate Vultus, #17) Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops of our Lord Dear Friends, be with you Sacrament of Reconciliation has the potential to change us if we allow it and have the desire to live out the graces that have been bestowed on us as a result.

1 ADMINISTRATOR'S MESSAGE Dear Fathers, Brothers and Sisters, Greetings from the Diocese of Vellore! It gives me joy and happiness to speak to you through our diocesan News Letter for the first time after becoming the Administrator of our diocese. As you know it was a saddening and shocking incident that our beloved bishop Most Rev. Dr. P. Soundararaju SDB., passed away on 21 March 2020. When everything comes to normalcy we will have solemn memorial mass for him. I thank the Almighty for His blessings and guidance and of course all the Council members, fathers, brothers, religious and people for their wonderful cooperation and kind understanding. In a special way my heartfelt thanks to Madha TV, the Chairman bishop Most Rev. Dr. Singarayan, the director Rev. Fr. David Arockiam and the team for their generous heart to telecast the whole funeral ceremony on live. I take this opportunity to thank all those who have expressed their heartfelt condolences and prayers to the demise of our bishop. KS » July 2021» Vol 94 » No. 07 PROVINCIAL’S MUSINGS he Jesuits and human rights defenders all over are in grief at the brutal murder of the prophet of our times, Fr Stan Swamy. His death is the result of a systemic abuse Tof majoritarian authority and disregard for the rule of law. He is now a martyr and continues to evoke the consciences of people and we continue to sing in chorus the dirge of the caged bird by way of articles, stories, songs, poetry, candle light processions, memori- als, campaigns, etc. A question that stirs my inner being after Stan’s death is: where did this man get his energy from? As a human being he loved the Adivasis and the Dalits; as an Indian he loved the Indian Constitution and stood up for Constitutional and democratic values; as a Jesuit and a priest, he stood for gospel values and was captivated by the vision and mission of his Master, Jesus Christ. As a province, how can we continue the legacy of Stan? We need to become organic intel- lectuals like Stan wherever we are and whatever we do and never forget the Rights Based approach. Can we initiate reflective processes about human rights and its violations among different groups like our students, the youth, grass root workers, labourers, adivasis, Dalits and begin people’s movements. The second wave of Covid has waned down for the moment. I want to thank the Disaster Management Committee for the excellent coordination and relief work in reaching out to those in distress by way of food relief, medical relief and psychological support when the wave was at its peak.
