EXAMPLE RESTORATION PROJECTS American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine - St. Maarten, Dutch Antilles The American University of the Caribbean (AUC) was hit by Hurricane Irma, one of the strongest Category 5 storms on record to hit the Atlantic. As a long-time client, the University contacted dck worldwide immediately to conduct campus-wide hurricane recovery, repair, and renovation work. In less than ideal living and working conditions, our team was on-site starting hurricane claim documentation and assessment, demolition, and clean-up in advance of the renovation project. The fast-track renovation project included repairs and restoration of the school’s academic buildings, including classrooms, lecture halls, offices, central power plant, and infrastructure facilities that suffered significant water and wind damage. Within four short months, the AUC’s facilities were brought back to pre-Irma conditions in time for the beginning of the semester. Of special note, several Category 5 hurricane resistant buildings previously constructed by dck worldwide were used to safely shelter approximately 500 students, staff, and island residents during Irma.

The Four Seasons Resort - Nevis, British West Indies When Hurricane Lenny inflicted severe damage to the Four Seasons Resort, dck worldwide refurbished 100 ground floor rooms in 12 guest cottages, as well as the hotel’s Great House. All work was completed in only eight months, just in time for the November-May high season. The construction process involved installing 190,000 SF of drywall, 110,000 SF of ceiling, 7,000 SF of acoustical ceiling, 85,000 SF of Italian Marble floor tile, and a refurbished mechanical and electrical system. Additionally, a new pool and beach areas were constructed. When Hurricane Omar struck nine years later, we were once again asked by the Four Seasons Resort to help. The damage caused by Omar was extensive, destroying most of the resort and infrastructure. Work started in late May and was completed in time for the winter/spring high season. The construction/repairs included all new millwork, doors/ windows, interior finishes, flooring, electrical and mechanical infrastructure and equipment.
