Key words : lactea chinensis , Iris .var . seedling , emergence , survival , vegetations Introduction I . lactea population became dominant during the process of grassland succession19w8h5en2g0r0a0ssland was overgrazed . In general , good vegetation can restraiIn.sleaecdtegaermination and seedling survival ( Fenner M , , ) . In this experience , we would find how seed germinate of and seedling survive in different vegetation condition . Material and method I . lactea 2005 seed1s0were collected from wild stands growing in the Guyuan Rangland of Heibei in S=ep1temb3er . Capsules were air dried for d to release see1d5s0and seeds wer0e℃stratified wit2h00s6and and water ( seed to sand to ) outdoors during4 ℃winter , which had a period of over days below . On June , seeds were picked up and stored in refrigerator at . The experim1ent was conducted in a randomised complete block de3sign consisting of four seedbed treatments and five replicates : a control , A , ( undis2t0urbed vegetation) ; a removal treatment , A , ( cutting out the existing‐vegetation and digg‐ing out the plant roots to a depth of cm , then th2e soil‐were backfilled) and two cutting‐treatments ( pre sowing‐cutting only cutting the existing vegetation at ground level , A ; pre sowing cutting followed4 by post sowing interval cutting cutt4ing the existing veg1e0t0at×io1n00at gr2ound level and keep the existing veget5a0tion to a height 2o0f cm200p6rio2r0t0o the growing season , A ) . Each plot was cm and the distance between plots was cm . On July th , , seeds were sown into each plot .

Results 50 23% 3 Seedlings emerged after d1ays of sowing . Seedling emergence ( ) in the removal tre4a0tment ( A ) w2 as higher than the other three treatments ( Figure ) . Seedling survived after counting seedling emerge percent d as Figure . The removal treatment also resulted in the highest seedling survival . Conclusions The removal treatment significantly improve seedling emergence and survival . This may be due to both improved soil water and gas condition and reduced root allelopathy of other . The control also improved seedling survival . It may be due to reduced seedling transpiration . References Chapman and H all , 1985 87‐102 Fenner M . seed ecology : germination .
