Phoenix Area Homes Include the Circular David Wright House (1952), 5212 East Exeter Blvd., Designed for His Son in North Phoenix (1950), and the H.C
CITY REPORT (Iraq) Opera House (never built), serves as a distinguished gateway to the Tempe campus of Arizona State University. Its president at the time, Grady Gammage, was a good friend of the architect. Wright’s First Christian Church (designed in 1948/built posthumously by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in 1973), 6750 N. Seventh Ave., incorporates desert masonry, as in Taliesin West, and features distinctive spires. Wright’s ten distinguished Phoenix area homes include the circular David Wright House (1952), 5212 East Exeter Blvd., designed for his son in north Phoenix (1950), and the H.C. Price House (1954), 7211 N. Tatum Blvd., with its graceful combination of concrete block, steel and copper in a foothills setting. Wright’s approach continued through his pupils, such as Albert Chase McArthur, who is generally credited with the design of the spectacular Arizona Biltmore Hotel (1928), 24th St. and Missouri Ave. Wright’s influence on the building is clear in both massing and details, including the distinctive concrete Biltmore Blocks, cast onsite to an Emry Kopta design. Blaine Drake was another student who, with Alden Dow, designed the original Phoenix Art Museum, Theater and Library Complex and East Wing (1959, 1965), 1625 N. Le Corbusier y el Salon d’ Automne de París. Arquitectura y representación, 1908-1929 José Ramón Alonso Pereira “Arquitectura y representación” es un tema plural que abarca tanto la figuración como la manifestación, Salón d’ Automne imagen y escenografía de la arquitectura. Dentro de él, se analiza aquí cómo Le Corbusier plantea una interdependencia entre la arquitectura y su imagen que conlleva no sólo un nuevo sentido del espacio, sino Le Corbusier también nuevos medios de representarlo, sirviéndose de los más variados vehículos expresivos: de la acuarela Équipement de l’habitation al diorama, del plano a la maqueta, de los croquis a los esquemas científicos y, en general, de todos los medios posibles de expresión y representación para dar a conocer sus inquietudes y sus propuestas en un certamen Escala singular: el Salón de Otoño de París; cuna de las vanguardias. Espacio interior Le Corbusier concurrió al Salón d’ Automne con su arquitectura en múltiples ocasiones. A él llevó sus dibujos de Oriente y a él volvió en los años veinte a exhibir sus obras, recorriendo el camino del arte-paisaje a la arquitectura y, dentro de ella -en un orden inverso, anti-clásico-, de la gran escala o escala urbana a la escala edificatoria y a la pequeña escala de los espacios interiores y el amueblamiento. “Architecture and Representation” is a plural theme that includes both figuration as manifestation, image and Salon d’ Automne scenography of architecture. Within it, here it is analyzed how Le Corbusier proposes an interdependence between architecture and image that entails not only a new sense of space, but also new means of representing it, using Le Corbusier the most varied expressive vehicles: from watercolor to diorama, from plans to models, from sketches to scientific Équipement de l’habitation schemes and, in general, using all possible expression and representation means to make known their concerns and their proposals, all of them within a singular contest: the Paris’s Salon d’ Automne; cradle of art avant-gardes. -

His mother continued to do so until she died in 1960 at the age of 101, and his brother lived their until 1973. It is the smallest and simplest of the white villas Le Corbusier designed, to fit with his parents limited budget; indeed it no longer appears as a white villa, because structural problems caused by the lake, the cellar and the cheap building materials drove Le Corbusier to face the exterior in aluminum in the 1950s. -

EMBASSY OF SWITZERLAND IN CHINA Media release Beijing 10 April 2019 2nd edition of Sino-Swiss Architecture Dialogue kicks off; China premiere of Mario Botta documentary to further exchanges Building on the success of the inaugural Sino-Swiss Architecture Dialogue (SSAD) in 2018, the second edition returns to Beijing and Shanghai, with an additional stop in Chengdu. The three-city dialogue, held from 10 to 14 April with the participation of the world’s renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta and film director Loretta Dalpozzo, consists of a rich program of documentary screening, lecture, master class, and panel discussion. Initiated by the Embassy of Switzerland in China and co-organized by its Consulates General in Shanghai and Chengdu, the SSAD, an interactive platform to further exchanges between Switzerland and China, is supported by prestigious local partners of Tsinghua University Art Museum (TAM) in Beijing, Tongji University in Shanghai and Luxelakes·A4 Art Museum in Chengdu. Mario Botta, a prolific and creative crafter of space, will share his decades-long experience in the profession, and give inspirations to young architects and talents from China. Through the program, the dialogue will also showcase Swiss innovation in architecture, which is highlighted by cutting-edge technology and aesthetic creativity, and led by master architects including Le Corbusier, Peter Zumthor, Herzog & de Meuron and Mario Botta. Notes Cubo-Futurism Slap in theFace of Public Taste 1 . These two paragraphs are a caustic attack on the Symbolist movement in general, a frequent target of the Futurists, and on two of its representatives in particular: Konstantin Bal'mont (1867-1943), a poetwho enjoyed enormouspopu larityin Russia during thefirst decade of this century, was subsequentlyforgo tten, and died as an emigrein Paris;Valerii Briusov(18 73-1924), poetand scholar,leader of the Symbolist movement, editor of the Salles and literary editor of Russum Thought, who after the Revolution joined the Communist party and worked at Narkompros. 2. Leonid Andreev (1871-1919), a writer of short stories and a playwright, started in a realistic vein following Chekhov and Gorkii; later he displayed an interest in metaphysicsand a leaning toward Symbolism. He is at his bestin a few stories written in a realistic manner; his Symbolist works are pretentious and unconvincing. The use of the plural here implies that, in the Futurists' eyes, Andreev is just one of the numerousepigones. 3. Several disparate poets and prose writers are randomly assembled here, which stresses the radical positionof the signatories ofthis manifesto, who reject indiscriminately aU the literaturewritt en before them. The useof the plural, as in the previous paragraphs, is demeaning. Maksim Gorkii (pseud. of Aleksei Pesh kov, 1�1936), Aleksandr Kuprin (1870-1938), and Ivan Bunin (1870-1953) are writers of realist orientation, although there are substantial differences in their philosophical outlook, realistic style, and literary value. Bunin was the first Rus sianwriter to wina NobelPrize, in 1933.AJeksandr Biok (1880-1921)is possiblythe best, and certainlythe most popular, Symbolist poet. -
