What is there to say? Anything that takes me back into the world of Firefly and gives it serious consideration gets my vote. Never has there been a Serenity Found: More Unauthorized Essays on Joss Whedons Firefly Universe world populated by more extraordinary men and women. And Jayne. As a fan, Nathan Fillion's short essay "I, Malcolm" is the one you'll most likely read first. For those who are science fiction fans, but not yet Browncoats, as fans of Firefly are known, w What is there to say? For those who are science fiction fans, but not yet Browncoats, as fans of Firefly are known, well, first of all, where have you been? Then go back and watch all the others, or better yet watch them all in order and keep an eye out for this one. A wide range of topics is covered in the nineteen essays I'm counting Jane Espenson's introduction as one and the quality of writing is high across the board. Not all of them might strike your fancy, but if you sample a few, you may find yourself reading this collection from cover to cover as I did. However, it was a bit of a drag, and it felt like at least half of the essays had nothing to do with Firefly or Serenity. Like, I purchased this audiobook to listen to a book about Serenity, not Stargate or Buffy or Battlestar Galactica or Criminal Minds, even if I like half of those programmes. The Book Report: Eighteen more essays about the moral, political, and ethical underpinnings, implications, and effects of the late, lamented "Firefly" TV series. My Review: Last collection had yummy-yummy Jewel Staite, aka Kaylee, writing about her favorite things in each episode; this collection has the slurpsome Nathan Fillion reflecting on being the Captain! For that alone, it's worth the price of admission! But wait! There's more! Loni Peristere also a beauteous hunk of man-flesh, maybe Joss The Book Report: Eighteen more essays about the moral, political, and ethical underpinnings, implications, and effects of the late, lamented "Firefly" TV series. Loni Peristere also a beauteous hunk of man-flesh, maybe Joss is a switch-hitter? All the men in the 'verse are so toothsome! Then one Geoff Klock pulls apart and analyzes the brilliant, brilliant episode "Out of Gas", in search of storytelling genius and its telltale markers; there are many, and they are important for anyone interested in storytelling craft to study in depth. This essay makes that process almost easy, which is in itself a feat of storytelling. Read the essay, I ain't explainin' that one. Too long, and also it pisses me the hell off. It's poignant, it's well crafted, and it's quite nicely argued. The only essay that's a real flop is "The Virtual 'Verse", which was a waaay premature ad for the dead-in-the-water MMORPG of "Firefly" that was, at that time, being touted as forthcoming. Well, it Serenity Found: More Unauthorized Essays on Joss Whedons Firefly Universe forthcame, and the essay looks like what it was: Blatant product placement. Ten pages of keen observation on the nature of political propaganda masquerading as science. Again, if all you read is this one essay, your purchase price will be fully amortized. The subject is ever-more important, and this essay will sensitize you to the issue like never before. Just like "Firefly" would have, had it survived intact to this good day. Next best thing is buying BenBella Books's essay collections. And, of course, reading them with the starved passion of a jilted lover. Or is it just me? May 12, Lorraine rated it it was amazing. Again, another entertaining and thought provoking read. A look at faith, at River Tam and the Weaponized Women of Whedonverse, how feminism and comedy thrive in Whedonverse and how the Captain and the Doctor are co-heroes. All of this and more topped off by I Malcolm: a look at our dear Captain Tightpants by none other than Nathan Fillion. Both of these books are edited by master storyteller Jane Espenson Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse, Gilmore Girls, Ellen, Warehouse 13, and of course Again, another entertaining and thought provoking read. Look, I love Firefly. Jane Espenson was a writer for the show and the book contains a series of essays that discuss the show from a variety of viewpoints, some scholarly, others with a comedic note. As well as answering unresolved Serenity Found: More Unauthorized Essays on Joss Whedons Firefly Universe and character arcs, the compilation includes insight into the filming of each episode with actress Jewel Staite who played the role of Kaylee Frye on the show providing a commentary on each of the episodes produced. Since they didn’t have access to a plotter, plans had to be printed on A4 paper and stuck together, in a circle. The small details of the gate had to Tweet be drawn up from scratch, using photos and video footage. The skeleton of the gate is made up of 18 X-shaped pieces, and the spinning part is made from small planks. 89 The intricate stargate symbols had to be painstakingly carved, from wood, and chevrons first had to be carved from Styrofoam. The back of the stargate, though painted in gray, is totally fake, but the front looks realistic enough, with chevrons locking and everything. Thanks to an inner track, it even spins. Mango wasn’t too satisfied with the paint-job, but all in all this is a geeky masterpiece, just like the Stargate Share home-cinema . COCHRAN Under the Direction of Lynée Lewis Gaillet ABSTRACT Individuals who consider themselves both scholars and fans represent not only a subculture of fandom but also a subculture of academia. These liminal figures seem suspicious to many of their colleagues, yet they are particularly positioned not only to be conduits to engaged learning for students but also to transform the academy by chipping away at the stereotypes that support the symbolic walls of the Ivory Tower. Because they are growing in number and gaining influence in academia, the scholar-fans of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Buffy) and other texts by creator Joss Whedon are one focus of this dissertation. Though Buffy academics or Whedon scholars are not the only ones of their kind (e.g., academic- fan communities have cropped up around The Simpsons, The Matrix Trilogy, and the Harry Potter franchise), they have produced more literature and are more organized than any other academic-fan community.

They also meet some new people like Suzee Catalina's imaginary friend Space Case Written by Bethany. The feel of how this show was filmed reminds me of "the tomorrow people". Group of young cadets let curiosity get the better of them and sneak aboard a strange alien space cruiser. Suddenly, they find themselves in unknown space, trying to get home while battling a race called the "spung".
