Praise God for Waffle Shop Waitstaff

As the workers gathered on Friday after the last Waffle Shop and sang the Doxology, the words had a special meaning. “Praise God from whom all blessings flow.” Many blessings to all GSL people who so graciously stepped up to help us. We had at least eight people a week throughout Lent. It was a wonderful experience to be able to serve so many. Thank you all for your service and until next year, the aprons are washed and ready and we are already craving Fish Pudding. Parish Staff News from The Rector

I am pleased to share an update about the youth formation staff at Grace-St. Luke’s. Following the interim arrange- ment (August 2018 – May 2019) of our part-time Youth Formation Associates, Addison Combs and Jess Steenber- gen, and Youth Formation Intern, Zeke Smith, a full-time Director of Youth Formation has been called to the GSL parish community. Mr. Amzie J. Williams will begin ministry as Director of Youth Formation at the end of May. Currently, Amzie serves Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) Coordinator at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oxford, Mississippi, Intern and Musician for Canterbury: The Episcopal Church at Ole Miss (ECOM), and on the Division of Youth (DOY) Lead- ership Council for the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi. His youth ministry leadership in Mississippi includes Happening Reunion Co-Director and Camp Bratton-Green Winter Solstice Staff. In May, he will graduate with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Public Policy & Leadership from the University of Mississippi. To life at GSL, he will bring numerous gifts and talents, enthusiasm, and professionalism to further develop our youth program, and call on adults to serve as class teachers and mentors. Addison Combs Amzie J. Williams will offer support as his part-time Youth Formation Intern. Upon the acceptance of my offer, Amzie responded, “I am honored and pleased to accept, and eager to meet and join the vibrant Grace-St. Luke’s community. Having greatly enjoyed growing up, being formed, and working within my current diocese, it will be an exciting venture to become part of a new community of faith by leading the youth of GSL in their own formation through program offerings that are educational, fun, creative, deep, adventurous, musical, and in service to others.” Amzie has received solid recommendations from seasoned clergy and lay persons with whom he has worked in various youth engagement and administrative roles in the Diocese of Mississippi. At the of May, Amzie will begin serving in a part-time capacity primarily to overlap with Addison, Jess, and Zeke; connect with parish and school youth and their families during the remainder of Spring 2019; and begin program planning for Summer-Fall 2019 & Winter-Spring-Summer 2020. I wish to thank members of my recruitment advisory circle for their service and time with him: Grant Adams, Patrick Burnett, Patty Liles, Andy Nix, and Virginia Rowland. They along with Nina Callan and Lauri Prather will serve as the Welcome and Transition Team for the arrival and introduction of Director of Youth Formation, Amzie Williams, to Grace-St. Luke’s and Memphis. ======The Reverend Ollie V. The Use of “Enriching Our Worship” during Eastertide. The General Convention of the Episcopal Church (1997) authorized Enriching Our Worship as one of the Supplemental Liturgical Materials to the Book of Common Prayer, in keeping with our Church’s continual seeking of an authorized language of Common Prayer capable of expressing what we believe about God, as well as reflecting on our own corporate and individual relationship to the Godhead. This supplement is not intended to supplant the Book of Common Prayer, but rather to provide additional resources to assist worshiping communities wishing to expand the language, images and metaphors used in worship. Enriching Our Worship liturgies will be used occasionally during certain seasons in life at GSL.
