A committee, lead by the editors of Inside Lacrosse and comprised of the nation’s most knowledgeable figures in high school lacrosse, selected the top 44 senior boys and top 44 senior girls. Coaches, athletic directors and fans can nominate players to be considered for the team on the event website. THE TEAMS The All-Americans were assigned to teams from North and South regions of the United States. A geographic line was established to allow a fair assignment of known lacrosse powerhouse schools. THE 20-TEAM UNDERCLASS ELITE TOURNAMENT The Under Armour Underclass part of the event is a pool play tournament that features boys and girls Elite teams from Baltimore, Long Island, Midwest, New England, New Jersey, South, Philadelphia, Upstate New York,Washington, DC and West. The games will be played over the three-day All-America weekend at Towson University. Tryouts for these teams were held in their respective markets during May or June. In all, nearly 3,500 kids tried out for the Under Armour Underclassmen teams. Each tryout was attended by an average of 60 college coaches from some of the top programs in the nation. THE UNCOMMITTED GAMES New this year we will introduce the Uncommitted Games. Each year there are very talented players who are on the cusp of making their respective underclass team, but are not selected. Aside from the 24 players chosen for each regional team, five uncommitted (to college) players will be invited to compete and showcase themselves this weekend. A total of 50 players in each of the graduating classes - 2014, 2015, 2016 - for both boys and girls will play head-to-head games on Saturday. Players were selected by the regional evaluators and coaches. Only players who participated in the regional tryouts were eligible for the uncommitteed teams. THREE DAYS OF LACROSSE EXCITEMENT This year’s public activities will start on Friday with the kick off of the Underclass tournament at Towson University. A complete game schedule is included later in this publication. Action will continue on Saturday with additional Underclass games, the uncommitted games, as well as the featured senior All-America games, held at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson University. One admission ticket will get you access to both senior games. Play for the Underclass tournament will conclude on Sunday with the end of pool play as well as the championship games. 3 WELCOME FANS Dear Families, Friends, and Fans, Welcome to the eighth annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. This weekend, the eyes of the lacrosse world are focused on Towson University as the most elite high school lacrosse players in the country demonstrate their skills in front of the game’s top collegiate coaches, passionate fans, and fellow elite players. We are excited to host players from all corners of the United States and congratulate them for their tremendous achievement of earning the sport’s biggest honor…being named an Under Armour All-American. The Under Armour All-America label is one that will stick with a player throughout their playing career. It also represents years of dedication, sacrifice and the support of an entire network of family, friends, coaches, and teammates. Inside Lacrosse was instrumental in the selection of the senior All-America teams through a committee made up of the nation’s most knowledgeable figures in high school lacrosse. They picked the brains of college and high school coaches from across the country to find the best of the best. The ultimate litmus test of an Under Armour All-American is how a player performs at the collegiate level. A total of 84 former Under Armour All-Americans were named to their respective college’s all-conference teams at the conclusion of 2013 college lacrosse season. University of Maryland’s Katie Schwarzmann (2009) walked away with the prestigious Tewaaraton Award for the second consecutive year. The Underclass tournament affiliated with this event has evolved into lacrosse’s most prestigious showcase tournament. In both Long Island and Baltimore, for example, more than 125 college coaches attended the boys tryouts. Overall more than 3,000 student-athletes registered for the opportunity to earn a spot on their respective regional team….an all-time event record. We are delighted to expand the event with the creation of our uncommitted (to college) games. In addition to the 24 players selected for each regional team, five uncommitted players from each boys and girls region in the graduating classes of 2014, 2015 and 2016 were invited to compete in one game at the event. The uncommitted games promise to be a huge draw for college coaches. A big thank you goes to the people behind the scenes such as Bill Murphy and his staff at Towson University. Their tireless work during a holiday weekend plays a huge role in this event’s exponential growth and success. Thank you for being a part of this exciting and important event. Good luck to our athletes, and most importantly, have fun! 4 ALL-AMERICA GIRLS ROSTERS NORTH GIRLS # NAME POS. The Tewaaraton Award is presented to the most outstanding men’s and women’s collegiate lacrosse player as determined by two selection committees, consisting of collegiate coaches throughout all divisions of the sport. Of these, ten have been named as finalists, five men and five women, of which only two will be able to walk away with the sport’s top honor. “I truly believe that each of these finalists has showcased the ability to step forward and claim the Tewaaraton Award as their own this year. • College Lacrosse Recruiting Guide
SO… YOU WANT TO PLAY LACROSSE INCOLLEGE? H e o m n a o g r the Last Updated: March 2014 US Lacrosse | 113 W. University Parkway, Baltimore, Md. 21210 | 410.235.6882 | uslacrosse.org 1 H e o m n a o g r the Letter from US Lacrosse On behalf of US Lacrosse, it is my sincere pleasure to introduce you to our college recruiting handbook, “So...You want to play lacrosse in college?.” In recent years, college recruiters have accelerated the timeline and created recruiting formulas that are unique to them. The direction of the college lacrosse recruiting process has led to confusion by some, frustration to others and leaves everyone guessing. The intent of this handbook is to present hard facts, dispel the myths, and to promote the essentials. As a parent of two children who have been through the process and a high school coach for thirty years, I have seen the process play out in scenarios that are too many to number. From my experience there are a few points that I would like to highlight. First, everyone’s journey through the process is unique, so do not rely on others who say they know how the process works. Second, one can only control the tools that are in their own hands. Recruits and their families must educate themselves about the process and the schools of interest, prepare physically for competition, and to achieve to your potential academically. A recruit and their family have no control over the decisions that a college coach will make.
