Transport Arrangements REDBORNE UPPER SCHOOL & COMMUNITY COLLEGE June 2021 Transport Arrangements There are a number of transport providers that serve our students. They are: 1 Central Bedfordshire Council CBC provide transport for those students who are entitled to a free bus pass. They currently operate the following bus routes: A01A Haynes, Maulden A02 Flitton, Silsoe A03 Haynes, Maulden A05A Wilstead, Houghton Conquest, Maulden A11 Tingrith, Eversholt, Lidlington, Millbrook A14 Ridgmont, Husborne Crawley, Aspley Guise, Woburn Sands, Brogborough If you would like to know if your son or daughter is entitled to a free bus pass please telephone School Transport on 0300 300 8339. Please note, entitlement is based on CBC policy and if your son or daughter was eligible in Years 9 to 11 to free transport it doesn’t mean they would be entitled in the sixth form (Years 12 or 13). 2 Redborne Upper School Redborne Upper School has contracted two local coach companies to provide three services on a bus pass only basis: 3H Henlow, Clifton, Shefford, Campton, Meppershall, Shillington, Upper Gravenhurst H14 Woburn, Aspley Heath, Woburn Sands, Aspley Guise, Husborne Crawley, Ridgmont 80H Haynes, Wilstead, Maulden. If you require a seat on any of the above three services, please complete an application form that will be provided in your joining pack in the spring of 2021. We will then advise you of the finalised cost for the service you wish to use, once they have been set. Details of the current costs for 2021-22 are available on our website. Seats on all of these services are limited and are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Currently these services will be operating until at least July 2022 and are reviewed each year. The current timetables for the bus services are included below. On 26 July 1985 we wrote to Bedfordshire County Council announcing our intention to undertake a review of the County under section 48{1) of the Local Government Act 1972. Copies of the letter were sent to the principal local authorities, and parishes, in Bedfordshire and in the surrounding counties of Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire; to the National and County Associations of Local Councils; to the Members of Parliament with constituency interests and to the headquarters of the main political parties. In addition, copies were sent to those government departments, regional health authorities, water authorities, and electricity and gas boards which might have an interest, as well as to British Telecom, the English Tourist Board, the local government press and to local television and radio stations serving the area. 2. The County Councils were requested, in co-operation as necessary with the other local authorities, to assist us in publicising the start of the review by inserting a notice for two successive weeks in local newspapers so as to give a wide coverage in the areas concerned.

Matters Arising Item 302: • Slow Down Signs – not yet in place, Martin Spirito will obtain them from Clive Faine and place them at either end of the village • Cllr. Jameson reported the cost of a smiley face speed sign is in the region of £3,500, which would have to be funded by the village, and details are available from a company, Truvelo. • Memorial Bus Shelter – Martin Spirito reported templates have been made for the guttering and work is under way • Hallowe’en/Bonfire Night – 2018 will be held in Tony’s field on Saturday 27th October 313. Central Beds Councillor’s Report • There is an improvement in the condition of the highways • The Council is managing to balance the budget but more funding is required to support more children requiring special needs and the elderly.

We had considered a ‘pub’ style sign like many of those across the country, but felt that due to the amount of trees planted on The Green, it would be hidden in the foliage and missed by many. The background would be red with white writing and some of you will recognize the photo reproduced by kind permission of John Whitehall. So we are just awaiting permission from CBC Highways/Street furniture folk to see if it would be acceptable and can be located in place of the current plain “SHILLINGTON” sign currently on display.

    The evaluation of Bedfordshire burial registration, L538-L851 Peter Razzell, Christine Spence and Matthew Woollard Abstract This article is based mainly on a digital transcript of burials for 126 Bedfordshire parishes 7538-7851, and a county index of wills for the same period. The comparison of probate with burial register data indicated that there uas little long-term change oaer time in burial tmder-registratiott, with between 21 and 27 per cent of utill entries missing in the registers. There was also little aariation between parishes of dffirent population sizes, suggesting that burial tmder-registratiot'L was predominantly a random process linked to clerical negligence. A comparison of 1841 and L851 census data, linked to the Bedfordshire burial database, reaealed thnt missing burials amongst married couples was 29 per cent, similar to that found in the probatelburial register comparison in the 1840s. These findings on the adequacy of burial registers -saggesf thnt similar resesrch on others counties will be necessary in order to establish reliable conclusions about England's population history. Introduction One of the major issues of historical demography has been the reliability of Anglican parish registers and its relationship to English population history in the period 1538-1850.1 Assumptions about the reliability of registers have had a major effect on the interpretation of population change, and this has had a significant impact on the debate about the nature of population growth during the 'parish register period'. Much of the uncertainty about demographic change is due to the inflation factors used for the correction of missing births and deaths in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
