OVERVIEW STORY: REDEMPTION Thankfully, God does not just leave us in the broken world, but is repairing the brokenness through His Son. From the very beginning of time, God promised He would fix creation, and He kept His promise by sending Jesus to rescue us from our sin. Jesus came to live on the earth and willingly died on the cross so that sin’s power over creation would be broken forever.

A GOOD NEWS STORY As a family, play a game of charades, acting out each family member’s favorite outing, such as a trip to the playground, a trip to the mall, playing golf, etc. We all have stories to tell, but the best story is the story of Jesus. The gospel is a good news story about Jesus bringing salvation to the world.

DISCOVER IT: (Use the passage to illustrate the Big Truth.) Acts 8:26-40.

THINK ABOUT IT: (Use the commentary to reinforce the Big Truth.) Everyone likes hearing good news. Jesus came bringing the very best news. He came showing us how we can all be saved from our sin. Jesus paid our sin debt when He died on the cross and if we repent and believe, we can be saved. Not only did Jesus come to share this good news with the world, He asks His followers to share the good news too! Philip was a follower of Jesus. He loved Jesus and was willing to risk his life to tell others about Him. One day, God told Philip to go to the road that led from Jerusalem to Gaza. Philip listened to God and when he got to the road, he met an Ethiopian eunuch on his way back from worshiping in Jerusalem. The eunuch was reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip heard him and began to share with the Eunuch about Je- sus and the good news that Jesus brought. The Ethiopian had never heard about Jesus and he didn’t know the good news. The Ethiopian believed that he could be saved through Jesus and he believed in Jesus right then and there. He was baptized immediately in a pool of water that was nearby to show that he was now a follow- er of Jesus. Because Philip listened to God and was willing to go wherever God told him to go, the Ethiopian heard the good news. We, too, can share the good news with others. We get to be a part of God’s mission to share the good news of Jesus with the whole world. Because Jesus came to us, we can go to others.

TALK ABOUT IT: (Use the questions to discuss the Big Truth) • What is the good news of Jesus? (Jesus came and paid our sin debt and when we repent and believe, we can be saved.) • Why did Philip go to the road that led to Gaza? (God told Philip to go there.) • Who did Philip meet on the road to Gaza? (He met an Ethiopian eunuch.) • What happened when Philip shared the gospel with the Ethiopian? ? (He placed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized.)

As a family, memorize Acts 1:8 by writing the verse on a large piece of paper and helping your child decorate the verse. Hang the verse up somewhere it can be easily seen. Through- out the week, spend some time saying the verse together. KNOW Help your child create a flipbook that shares the good news of the gospel. Use markers, cray- ons, and stickers to draw pictures that show how we can be saved. Staple the book together and go through the book with your child throughout the week. DO As a family, create care packages for your local homeless shelter. Help your child create cards for each care package that shares the good news about Jesus. Deliver the packages to your shelter with your child and talk about how we share the good news with others because Je- FEEL sus came to us.

Spend some time this week praying together as a family and sharing the gospel with your child. WANT
