Bruins Host Broncos Saturday Night At Drake Stadium UCLA looking to avenge last season's playoff loss to Santa Clara.

This Week — The UCLA men's soccer team (1-3-1) hosts Santa Clara (1-3-1) on Saturday, Sept. 20 in a 2008 UCLA Schedule non-conference matchup at Drake Stadium at 7 pm. The Broncos have rebounded, however, in their last Sept. 20 Santa Clara 7 pm two games, defeating Milwaukee, 2-1, and tying sixth-ranked California this weekend, 1-1. Santa Clara is Sept. 25 at San Diego 7 pm led in scoring by junior midfi elder Jeff Cosgriff with two goals and two assists. The central defender entered the 2008 campaign with just one career goal, in 2005, but he has scored goals in two of his last four games to tie forward Maxwell Griffi n Stat Leaders for the team lead in goals scored with two. Goals First-Timers — Seeing their fi rst NCAA Division I action on opening day against Maryland were starters Eder Maxwell Griffi n - 2 Arreola, Christian Vazquez, Chris Cummings and Luis Serrano and reserves Fernando Monge and Prince Brad Rusin - 2 Lapnet. Other Bruin freshmen made their collegiate debuts two days later against UC Riverside - Oscar Michael Stephens - 1 Reyes, Zack Zerrenner and Andy Rose. Monge and Lapnet made their fi rst career starts at Wake Forest, Assists and Zerrenner and Rose started for the fi rst time against North Carolina on Sunday. Kyle Nakazawa - 2 Maxwell Griffi n - 2 Nakazawa Named To M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List — Junior midfi elder Kyle Nakazawa was named Eder Arreola - 1 to the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List. Nakazawa, UCLA's 2007 Team MVP, has started every game Jason Leopoldo - 1 of his collegiate career (50 starts and counting) and compiled a total of seven goals and 17 assists. In Points 2007, he led the Bruins with seven assists and was second on the team in scoring with 13 points and Maxwell Griffi n - 6 two game-winning goals, both of which were scored in the fi nal two minutes of the game, at Washington Brad Rusin - 4 and against New Mexico in the NCAA fi rst round. Nakazawa was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection in Michael Stephens - 2 2007 and a Soccer America All-Freshman honoree in 2006. The former youth international totaled 21 Kyle Nakazawa - 2 career caps with the U.S. Under-17 National Team and was a starter on the U-17 team that placed fi fth at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championships. Nakazawa was also named to Soccer America's Pre-Season Goals Against Average Trevor Hunter - 0.82 All-America fi rst team. Brian Perk - 1.96 Fresh Faces — UCLA enters the season with 12 new players, including 11 true freshmen. The freshman class was rated the No. 9 recruiting class in the nation by College Soccer News and includes four players with U.S. Youth National Team experience - Eder Arreola, Chris Cummings, Oscar Reyes and Victor Yanez. UCLA In The Rankings Also new to the program are assistant coaches Kenny Arena and Ignacio Hernandez. Arena was an assistant Week SA NSCAA CSN TDS ST coach at George Mason in 2007 and served as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, the University of Virginia Pre 11 14 14 26 13 9/2 14 19 18 28 16 in 2006. Arena played with the Cavaliers from 1999-2002 and was an All-ACC performer during his senior 9/8 nr 24 24 28 21 season. He also played in with the NY/NJ MetroStars and DC United.
