ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND The Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation works to continue the mindful teachings and practice of Master Thich Nhat Hanh, support our mindfulness practice centers around the world, and engage in community building in order to foster peace and transform suffering in all people, animals, plants, and our planet. Thich Nhat Hanh is a global spiritual leader, poet, and peace activist, revered throughout the world for his powerful teachings and bestselling writings on mindfulness and peace. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1967.

The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Plum Village Community of Engaged , Inc. (PVCEB), the nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization incorporated in the United States dedicated to support the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and the . Our office is located at Deer Park in Escondido, California.

POSITION SUMMARY The Communications Coordinator serves as the Foundation’s compelling writer and visual storyteller. You’ll capture and communicate the stories of our mindfulness practice centers and programs with inspiring, consistent, and mindful messaging. You’ll combine storytelling and data to inspire and show our donors the impact of their donations.

As a member of an integrated fundraising and community building team, the Communications Coordinator is the primary implementer of the Foundation’s annual communications plan. This plan implements a range of communications strategies that include digital and print collateral, direct mail, event communications, and social media. You’ll also perform various duties for our grants program. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Foundation.

In addition to communications experience, a successful candidate will have a strong mindfulness practice in the Plum Village tradition and be committed to the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Create, update, and implement the annual communications plan • Develop and curate written, graphic, and video content across various communication channels to inspire audiences, deliver information, and enhance engagement

• Create and monitor consistency with the Foundation’s style guide • Prepare a social media calendar and manage the day-to-day administration of the Foundation’s accounts, including answering questions and moderating social discussions, while crafting mindful and compassionate responses • Monitor website and social media metrics to provide regular reporting and actionable insights • Maintain library of communications collateral including photos, videos, infographics, etc. • Oversee the grants program including reviewing, coordinating, and tracking grant applications and reporting to the Foundation • Monthly status reporting and accounting of applications to the grants committee • Build relationships and communicate with grantees to ensure compliance with grant terms • Performs other duties as required in relation to the Foundation’s communications

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS • Strong desire to create and write mindful, inspiring, and positive communications • Either a member of the , or a recipient of the Five Mindfulness Trainings, or deeply inspired by the work of Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village community • Experience writing, editing, and crafting content across various communication channels, including newsletters, annual reports, websites, and social media • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading, copywriting, and copyediting • Good project management skills • Mindful attention to detail • Comfortable and proficient in analyzing data • Bilingual (English/Vietnamese) is highly preferred • Understanding and experience working with the Plum Village lay and monastic practice community • Proficient with Microsoft Office, G/Google Suite, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, and comfortable learning new applications • Ability to work independently and flexible hours • Must demonstrate the ability to be culturally competent in all respects • Residence relatively near one of the mindfulness practice centers preferred: Deer Park Monastery in Escondido, California; Blue Cliff in Pine Bush, New York; or Magnolia Grove in Batesville, Mississippi.
