KAPPA CONSTITUTION Preamble We the sisterhood of Chi, do hereby ordain and establish this our National Constitution. May our endeavors and servitude be guided by our Lord and set forth precedence within our hearts.

Article I - Name Section 1 - The name of this organization shall be the Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. – Theta Chapter

Article II - Foundation Section 1 - Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. National Foundation is an independent non- profit 501 © (3) organization organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. National Foundation is the official foundation of the sorority.

Article III- Purpose Section 1 - The purpose of Kappa Delta Chi shall be to promote the traditional values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity, and Leadership of its members. An organization dedicated to service for institutions of high education and underrepresented communities with special emphasis on the Hispanic/ Latino population; a servitude based on love and friendship.

Article IV – Membership Section 1 - As a Registered Student Organization at the we adhere to the University of Houston’s Non-Discrimination Policy. The University of Houston is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution. The university provides equal treatment and opportunity to all persons without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status except where such distinction is required by law. Additionally, the System prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Section 2 – New Membership shall be open to any student who fulfill the following requirements: A. Full time undergraduate student enrolled at the University of Houston, unless due to extenuating circumstance approved by the executive board. B. Has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better. C. Who is not a first- semester freshman D. Will aspire and uphold the traditional values of the organization.

Section 3 – Active membership shall is granted to those who fulfill the following requirement: A. A full time undergraduate student enrolled at the University of Houston, unless due to extenuating circumstance approved by the executive board. B. Who agreed to uphold this Constitution, C. Has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better. D. Participate fully in the activities of this organization.

Article V – Officers Section 1 - The officers of this organization shall consist of a President, Vice President, Standards, Service, New Member Educator, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding, Sergeant-at-Arms, Historian, and Council Delegate and shall collectively be referred to as the Executive Board.

Section 2 – In order to hold an executive position an officer must be an active member of the sorority for the semester elected.

Section 3 – In order to hold one of the top 5 positions, the officer must have held any executive board position for two semesters, or one complete year. Unless due to extenuating circumstance defined by the active house.

Section 4 - The responsibilities of the President shall be as follows: A. To preside at all meetings; B. To serve as the representative of the organization; C. To supervise all projects; D. To vote only in case of a tie.

Section 5 - The responsibilities of the Vice-President shall be as follows: A. To preside in the absence of the President; B. To appoint chairpersons and members of all committees; C. To serve as the head chairwoman in charge of all chair positions; D. To assume the office of President in his/her absence, vacancy, resignation, or dismissal;

Section 6 - The responsibilities of the Standards shall be as follows: A. To keep the constitution up to date; B. To ensure that all members are upholding all standards both outside and within the organization; C. To bring about corrections when needed; D. To maintain the files of each sister; E. To ensure that the Anti- and Drug policy is followed by all members.

Section 7 - The responsibilities of the Service shall be as follows: A. To organize service projects for the organization and community; B. To maintain record of all hours and service files.

Section 8 - The responsibilities of the New Member Educator shall be as follows: A. To plan and administer a New Member program that will teach new members the ideals and standards of Kappa Delta Chi.

Section 9 - The responsibilities of the Treasure shall be as follows: A. To keep accurate records of all receipts and expenses of the chapter; B. To report weekly financial reports at the beginning of each meeting; C. To prepare schedule payments for each academic semester; D. To prepare budgets for each officer and chairwoman; E. To pay all national dues on time; F. To have signature authority on all checks issued by this organization; G. To hold personal responsibility for all organization funds in his/her possession.

Section 10 - The responsibilities of the Recording Secretary shall be as follows: A. To record minutes of meetings of this organization; B. To keep all member files and rosters up to date; C. To deliver minutes verbally to members who have missed meetings.

Section 11 - The responsibilities of the Corresponding Secretary shall be as follows: A. To maintain all correspondence with inactive members, and other chapters; B. To create the newsletter and distribute it all members.

Section 12 - The responsibilities of the Sargent-at-Arms shall be as follows: A. To count votes; B. To call roll at meetings; C. To maintain order according to Robert’s Rules of Order; D. To distribute and collect all fines from members.

Section 13 - The responsibilities of the Historian shall be as follows: A. To take pictures of the chapter both at internal and external events; B. To create weekly devotionals at meetings; C. To create and end of the year photo album.

Section 14 - The responsibilities of the Council Delegate shall be as follows: A. To act as a liaison between the organization the Multicultural Greek Council.

Section 15 - In the event that the President of the chapter is unable to fulfill her duties as President, the chain of command is as follows: President, Vice-President, Standards, Service Officer, New Member Educator, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Sergeant-at-Arms, Historian/Chaplain, and Council Delegate.

Article VI – Elections Section 1 – Candidates for any officer position must be an Active Member for the elected semester.

Section 2 – Candidates for any office shall be nominated or shall nominate themselves.

Section 3 – Election of officers shall take place at a general meeting called for that purpose and must meet quorum.

Section 4 – Election of officers shall be by a majority.

Section 5 – In case of a tie, the Current President shall cast the deciding vote.

Section 6 – If there is only one candidate applying for an office, that candidate can take office by default.

Section 7 – Officers may be re-elected without limitation.

Article VII – Meetings

Section 1 – Regular meetings shall be held weekly each semester, the day and hour will be set by the active house before the beginning of each new semester.

Section 2 – Special meetings shall be called at the discretion of the President.

Section 3 - Robert’s Rules of Orders, shall govern this organization in all cases to which they are applicable.

Article VII – Philanthropy Section 1 - The official National Philanthropy is the American Cancer Society. Emphasis will be place in Minority and Latino Outreach Efforts for the support of the Latino population. Donations to the American Cancer Society will be made every fall semester of the academic school year.

Section 2 - The local philanthropy is the Rose Breast Cancer Clinic. Donations to the Rose Breast Cancer Clinic are made during every spring semester of the academic school year.

Anti-Hazing Clause: Kappa Delta Chi does not encourage, condone or tolerate hazing in any form. The activity of hazing is not in keeping with the principles and traditions of our sisterhood and can reflect negatively on the sorority. Hazing will be considered as any action or situation which includes any mental or physical requirement, request or obligation placed upon any person which could cause discomfort, pain, fright, disgrace, injury, or which is personally degrading or which violates any Federal, State, local statutes or university policy. Any activity described in this definition upon which the initiation, or admission into, or affiliation with, or continued membership in an organization is directly or indirectly conditional, will be presumed to be a “forced” activity.
