Egypt is one of the most popular countries in the world to study in. It is renowned for its high educational standards, its heritage, safety and popular culture.

Why study in Egypt?

Egypt will forever be the land of massive achievements. Egypt has been home to tenacious people who have left amazing monuments from the pyramids to the Sphinx. Even in ancient times, people traveled there to see the wonders that had been built. Today, Egypt stands as one of those modern nations that juxtapose their past and present in striking fashion. Modern edifices are jumbled together with small villages and the ruins from past ages, all set against the backdrop of the desert, Nile River and the famous Egyptian monuments. The accumulated wealth of art and architecture of thousands of years resides there. Prepare to be amazed!

53 Obour Campus Benha University

Introduction In the context of the State's strategic plan to expand university education to improve the standard of living of the Egyptian citizen and reach the interna- tional rates of university education, Benha University adopted the same context by launching the activation of the Obour Campus to be an enlightenment center that provides educational, research and environmen- tal services in Obour area and surrounding regions. This serves the citizens of Qaliubiya, Cairo and Shar- qiya governorates.

Three programs started already in September 2019. These are Law – English Section, Commerce – English Section, and Biotechnology Program.

54 Infra structure

Benha University aims to have Obour Campus per international standards and a competitor to the top universities in the local, regional and even global rankings. This would be achieved by establishing a solid infrastructure that provides and supports the campus and its educational processes.

The infrastructure extends to cover the basic equip- ment including technical laboratories, computer labs, projectors, communication equipment, camer- as, recording, air and video conferences, state-of-the-art and information network covering the entire campus.

Scope

Benha University is expanding its Obour Campus by contributing to the wheel of achievements in the country by subsidizing to the optimal use of avail- able resources in the governorates and areas covered by the university and in cooperation with other universities and governorates to provide services on an area extending to the borders of Egypt and beyond borders to reach neighboring countries and the rest of the world.

It is also one of the priorities of the university in its new campus to use and develop various technologi- cal methods in teaching and scientific research processes in line with the global changes in the areas of application of these modern and constantly evolving mechanisms.

Industry and Technology

The University has prepared several plans in the field of effective cooperation with the industry in various applied fields. The formation of an academ- ic industrial council with the participation of senior industrialists in the areas near the campus with their counterparts from academic work.

55 So that the services provided by the campus is up to a high degree of efficiency affecting the community by achieving the targeted development of the speci- fications of the products of Egyptian industries and competitiveness of the Egyptian graduate and the level of Welfare of the Egyptian citizen.

In addition to the above-mentioned Council, direct- ing scientific research to the developmental needs of the State in the different industries and according to the national research plan focusing on some areas such as environmental and sustainability, water resources, and energy and renewable energy research.

Also, other public and private requirements chang- ing according to time, technology and available resources are to be considered. The plans also include the use of industry experts in various fields to participate in teaching and demonstrating real practice to clarify the aspects and details applied in education as well as their participation in the research process and environmental services that can be provided to the community.

Environment

A fundamental consideration in the plans of the new university campus is to focus on the environmental needs of the community.

This is due to the concern for natural resources, conservation and development. Also, it is aimed to conserve energy and sources and reduce consump- tion rates.

In addition, it is targeted to preserve the natural components of the environment of water, air and soil as the natural composition and to protect them from pollution and control the causes of pollution. In addition, it is intended to provide a distinct environment for the citizen in addition to the above, such as protection from the sound and visual pollut- ants and the preservation of architectural, religious, social and other heritage.

56 Life Variables

The University has taken into account in the establish- ment of its new campus crossing the dynamic aspect of rapid changes characterized by the current era.

This starts with the organizational structure of the branch so that it is proportionate with its expected expansion in the volume of work and quality of services provided by the campus.

In addition, the study programs are designed to be modern in order to compete with the corresponding international programs and to allow the addition of new scientific topics in the fields of specialization. In addition it is directed to consider the natural flexibility in the research process, topics and methods of research applica- tions.

Innovation

All of the above objectives can be achieved only through the development of innovative and creative capacity of the student and graduate through raising the cognitive capacity and training him to think, analyze, find and evaluate possible solutions to the current and expected challenges of society in the light of current inputs and levels of development targeted.

This can only come with the guidance of faculty members and researchers in partnership with industry experts and stakeholders from the community. The university plans to establish centers to support innovation and support innovative projects in the new branch.

Teaching methods

The educational methods in the new branch depend on the modern educational systems such as relying on the student to be the focus of the educational process. This is achieved by encouraging and motivating him to research, summarize, find solutions, work technical reports and presenta- tions. Also, the process would encourage teamwork, the development of leadership skills and the use of various methods of assessment through workshops, discussions, periodic work and diver- sification of written exam questions to cover the assessment of primary and specialized knowl- edge and technical and personal skills.
