Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report as on March 2014 For Federal Bank, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been an inherited and inbuilt element of its fundamentals right from the day the bank was founded. Our founder’s values and ethos were embedded into the bank’s policies and principles, which are reflected even today in its day-to-day business. CSR in Federal Bank began with the first act of Cultivating banking habits in a agrarian society, to effectively utilize idle money for productive purposes, was the first act of. Creating employment opportunity for a predominantly farming community was phase two. Federal Bank’s early training cum employment policy of recruiting academically brilliant students who passed out school final examination in first class, but financially unable to proceed to higher education was an early commitment to society. This enables a large number of poor but brilliant students to develop their personality and to grow to adorn vital positions in the society. Many of the products and services promoted by the bank – marriage endowment schemes, educational loans etc had resulted in great benefits to the society, at that point of time. The CSR policy of Federal Bank has been characterized by active participation in various social welfare and charitable projects all over the country. The CSR policy of the bank prescribes the areas and geographies so that the bank can make a meaningful effect in these focus areas. It focuses mainly on the following core areas 1. Education 2. Healthcare 3. Agri- infrastructure Scholarships through “FedBank Hormis Memorial Foundation”, training and development centers, competitions, career guidance seminars etc are some activities the bank undertakes 1 in the education sector. Federal Bank was the proud organizer of “Pink Walkathone”, a breast cancer awareness campaign as part of the bank’s 67th Founder’s Day. Blood donation camps, providing resources like ambulances etc are some other activities undertaken in healthcare sector. Another CSR initiative by the Federal bank is the employing of disabled people in the bank’s call centres. All the CSR activities of Federal Bank are aimed solely at making a meaningful contribution in a period of sweeping changes, honouring the society in which the bank functions. 2 HEALTH Let’s cycle Miles with Care! The bright dawn of October 18, 2013, the 68th Founder’s day of Federal Bank held out the promise of a “Year of Sunshine.” To give a cheerful start to all that were in store for the year, the day was begun with an 18 km “cyclothon” of Federals from Mookkannor, the birthplace of the bank’s founder to Aluva the seat of its head office. The event flagged off by MD&CEO of the bank, Shri Shyam Srinivasan was partaken by an entourage of more than 200 young federals. The cyclists with placards conveyed message of hope and happiness that was set to illumine the lives of many. While the principal cause for the yearlong celebration was philanthropy, the cyclothon carried an inspiration to all to stay fit and active radiating a hope for a better tomorrow. True to the spirit of the motto, the Federal family were to touch the lives of a great number their less privileged brethren, country wide, as the ensuing months testified. 3 Federal Bank Alpha Palliative Care Walkathon - Care for Senior Citizen with an aim to share the vision to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care throughout the state by creating opportunities to speak out about the issues, to raise awareness and to understand the needs like medical, social, psychological and spiritual - of people living with a life limiting illnesses. James P V DGM Ernakulum Zonal Office and other federals. • Our MD&CEO Shyam Srinivasan and4 CSR Head Raju Hormis with other federals participated in the walkathon Diabetic awareness and prevention project- lab equipped van To spread awareness throughout the revenue districts of Ernakulum Thrissur Palakkad Idukki and Coimbatore, The Rotary International 3201came together with Federal Bank to start a mobile medical camp with a fully lab equipped van which provides onsite testing and diagnosis of the condition of the visiting public. This programme has benefited large number of people from lower and middle class and is a highly successful ongoing programme 5 “Diabetic Awareness & Prevention Project”- Lab equipped van – a joined initiative of rotary international and federal bank. The van was flagged off by Shri.K.Babu Minister for Fisheries, Ports & Excise, Government of Kerala. Seen L to R Shri. Dr. Ajay Kumar, District Governor Rotary 3201 Drinking water for “Samaritan Home” Thalassery Samaritan Home, Thalassery, run by sisters for the aged and destitute people, was started in 2005. The bank extended support for digging a tube well, as they were facing acute water shortage. 6 Organized a seminar on “Women’s well Being” with Rotary Club of th Chennai on 20 April 2013 The Rotary club of Chennai (Kilpauk) organized the third seminar “EVA” focusing on “Women’s Well Being” which included sessions on breast cancer and awareness, cosmetic surgery, fitness and diet for women etc. The federal bank supported the interactive session which was highly noted for the presence of specialist from the related field. Sensory room for mentally challenged children of Chavara special school, Koonammavu- Varapuzha 7 Chavara special for mentally challenged, promoted by CMC sisters, established in 1991 is currently home to 185 special children. Federal Bank assisted the organization in setting up a “Sensory Room” for the mentally challenged children were the Kids could engage safely in sensory based activities that help regulate central nervous system and thus leading to an increase quality of life. Setting up post treatment care and support unit under the pediatric oncology Division, Regional Cancer Center, Trivandrum Ladies Circle, an international organization with its roots in England, came to India in 1968. The first charter in Kerala was set up in Trivandrum in 1981 and has since continued the legacy of helping the underprivileged and destitute women. This year the organization organized a play “Between the Lines” by renowned actress and social activist, Ms Nandita Das, the funds collected thereby was utilized for setting up Post Treatment Care and Support Unit under the Pediatric Oncology Division, Regional Cancer Center, Trivandrum. Federal bank was proud to be the title sponsor for an event that aims to address the much neglected area of post treatment care to cancer patients. Trophies and mementos for various events organized for differently abled. 8 Federal bank was proud to sponsor trophies and mementoes for the 5th South Regional Cricket Tournament for deaf in Coimbatore and for Kerala State Level cricket tournament for blind in Ernakulam. This event further testifies Federal bank’s continuing support to the differently abled, to recognize and reward their endeavors. Steel cots for Raksha Bhavan a Charitable Society, Changanassery Raksha Bhavan a Charitable Society, engaged in protecting senior citizens is run by retired employees. The Bank supported the institution to urgently acquire steel coats as they were facing shortage of bed facilities for the new inmates. 9 A fund raising programme for establishing magical asylum, Medical museum and providing opportunity for street magicians Magic academy a charitable institution, devoted for the cause of promoting the art of magic , was established in 1996. Together with the Bank they organized “Aluva Magic Utsav”, a four day magical fiesta aimed at raising funds to establish a Medical Asylum, magic museum and provide opportunity for street magicians Sponsored the Musical night on 19th May 2013 as support to flagship programme- Heart to Heart of World Malayalee Council- Mumbai World Malayalee Council- Mumbai formed in 2009 has been actively working on projects related to environment and health care. A musical night was organized by the council and the Bank extended their support by sponsoring the event, whose proceeds would go to the assistance of financially weak patients. 10 Plastic Surgery Camp organized by Khandwa Diocese – a free service to poor and needy patients Khandwa Diocese has been providing free medical services to the poor and needy by organizing free plastic surgery camps in the past seven years at Khandwa, Sanawad and Sendhwa. This year, under the joint auspices of Federal Bank, a free plastic surgery camp was organized at St. Richard Pampuri Medical and Research Centre in Khandwa from 14th October to 25th October 2013. A team of Doctors, surgeons, anaesthetists, physiotherapist and nurses from Germany was kind enough to offer their free services for the camp. Ambulance as a ‘Patient Transport Vehicle’ to be used for rural service Christain medical College Ludhiana Society seeks to contribute to the health needs of India by training primarily Medical, Nursing, Dental and other health professional students and by providing holistic health services to the community and nation. The Bank sponsored an 11 Ambulance as ‘Patient Transport Vehicle’ to be used for rural services and in times of mass causalities to transport injured patients. Medical Equipments for Kurji Holy Family Hospital, Patna- Bihar Kurji Holy Family Hospital in run by Medical Mission Sisters and Sisters of Charity Nazareth in Patna, Bihar. The hospital has been rendering 55 years of compassionate service to the people of Bihar. The Bank offered a helping hand to the Hospital in purchasing various medical equipments like pulse oxymeter, drying shes, tractor, Ms office, Dunlop mattress etc.
