Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report as on March 2014

For Federal Bank, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been an inherited and inbuilt element of its fundamentals right from the day the bank was founded. Our founder’s values and ethos were embedded into the bank’s policies and principles, which are reflected even today in its day-to-day business. CSR in Federal Bank began with the first act of Cultivating banking habits in a agrarian society, to effectively utilize idle money for productive purposes, was the first act of. Creating employment opportunity for a predominantly farming community was phase two.

Federal Bank’s early training cum employment policy of recruiting academically brilliant students who passed out school final examination in first class, but financially unable to proceed to higher education was an early commitment to society. This enables a large number of poor but brilliant students to develop their personality and to grow to adorn vital positions in the society. Many of the products and services promoted by the bank – marriage endowment schemes, educational loans etc had resulted in great benefits to the society, at that point of time.

The CSR policy of Federal Bank has been characterized by active participation in various social welfare and charitable projects all over the country. The CSR policy of the bank prescribes the areas and geographies so that the bank can make a meaningful effect in these focus areas. It focuses mainly on the following core areas

3. Agri- infrastructure

Scholarships through “FedBank Hormis Memorial Foundation”, training and development centers, competitions, career guidance seminars etc are some activities the bank undertakes

in the education sector. Federal Bank was the proud organizer of “Pink Walkathone”, a breast cancer awareness campaign as part of the bank’s 67th Founder’s Day. Blood donation camps, providing resources like ambulances etc are some other activities undertaken in healthcare sector. Another CSR initiative by the Federal bank is the employing of disabled people in the bank’s call centres.

All the CSR activities of Federal Bank are aimed solely at making a meaningful contribution in a period of sweeping changes, honouring the society in which the bank functions.

Let’s cycle Miles with Care!

The bright dawn of October 18, 2013, the 68th Founder’s day of Federal Bank held out the promise of a “Year of Sunshine.” To give a cheerful start to all that were in store for the year, the day was begun with an 18 km “cyclothon” of Federals from Mookkannor, the birthplace of the bank’s founder to Aluva the seat of its head office. The event flagged off by MD&CEO of the bank, Shri Shyam Srinivasan was partaken by an entourage of more than 200 young federals. The cyclists with placards conveyed message of hope and happiness that was set to illumine the lives of many. While the principal cause for the yearlong celebration was philanthropy, the cyclothon carried an inspiration to all to stay fit and active radiating a hope for a better tomorrow. True to the spirit of the motto, the Federal family were to touch the lives of a great number their less privileged brethren, country wide, as the ensuing months testified.

with an aim to share the vision to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care throughout the state by creating opportunities to speak out about the issues, to raise awareness and to understand the needs like medical, social, psychological and spiritual - of people living with a life limiting illnesses.

Diabetic awareness and prevention project- lab equipped van

To spread awareness throughout the revenue districts of Ernakulum Thrissur Palakkad Idukki and Coimbatore, The Rotary International 3201came together with Federal Bank to start a mobile medical camp with a fully lab equipped van which provides onsite testing and diagnosis of the condition of the visiting public. This programme has benefited large number of people from lower and middle class and is a highly successful ongoing programme

Drinking water for “Samaritan Home” Thalassery

Samaritan Home, Thalassery, run by sisters for the aged and destitute people, was started in 2005. The bank extended support for digging a tube well, as they were facing acute water shortage.

Organized a seminar on “Women’s well Being” with Rotary Club of Chennai on 20th April 2013

The Rotary club of Chennai (Kilpauk) organized the third seminar “EVA” focusing on “Women’s Well Being” which included sessions on breast cancer and awareness, cosmetic surgery, fitness and diet for women etc. The federal bank supported the interactive session which was highly noted for the presence of specialist from the related field.

Sensory room for mentally challenged children of Chavara special school, Koonammavu- Varapuzha

Chavara special for mentally challenged, promoted by CMC sisters, established in 1991 is currently home to 185 special children. Federal Bank assisted the organization in setting up a “Sensory Room” for the mentally challenged children were the Kids could engage safely in sensory based activities that help regulate central nervous system and thus leading to an increase quality of life.

Setting up post treatment care and support unit under the pediatric oncology Division, Regional Cancer Center, Trivandrum

Ladies Circle, an international organization with its roots in England, came to in 1968. The first charter in Kerala was set up in Trivandrum in 1981 and has since continued the legacy of helping the underprivileged and destitute women. This year the organization organized a play “Between the Lines” by renowned actress and social activist, Ms Nandita Das, the funds collected thereby was utilized for setting up Post Treatment Care and Support Unit under the Pediatric Oncology Division, Regional Cancer Center, Trivandrum. Federal bank was proud to be the title sponsor for an event that aims to address the much neglected area of post treatment care to cancer patients.

A fund raising programme for establishing magical asylum, Medical museum and providing opportunity for street magicians

Magic academy a charitable institution, devoted for the cause of promoting the art of magic , was established in 1996. Together with the Bank they organized “Aluva Magic Utsav”, a four day magical fiesta aimed at raising funds to establish a Medical Asylum, magic museum and provide opportunity for street magicians

Sponsored the Musical night on 19th May 2013 as support to flagship programme- Heart to Heart of World Malayalee Council- Mumbai

World Malayalee Council- Mumbai formed in 2009 has been actively working on projects related to environment and health care. A musical night was organized by the council and the Bank extended their support by sponsoring the event, whose proceeds would go to the assistance of financially weak patients.

Plastic Surgery Camp organized by Khandwa Diocese – a free service to poor and needy patients Khandwa Diocese has been providing free medical services to the poor and needy by organizing free plastic surgery camps in the past seven years at Khandwa, Sanawad and Sendhwa. This year, under the joint auspices of Federal Bank, a free plastic surgery camp was organized at St. Richard Pampuri Medical and Research Centre in Khandwa from 14th October to 25th October 2013. A team of Doctors, surgeons, anaesthetists, physiotherapist and nurses from Germany was kind enough to offer their free services for the camp.

Ambulance as a ‘Patient Transport Vehicle’ to be used for rural service

Christain medical College Ludhiana Society seeks to contribute to the health needs of India by training primarily Medical, Nursing, Dental and other health professional students and by providing holistic health services to the community and nation. The Bank sponsored an

Medical Equipments for Kurji Holy Family Hospital, Patna- Bihar

Kurji Holy Family Hospital in run by Medical Mission Sisters and Sisters of Charity Nazareth in Patna, Bihar. The hospital has been rendering 55 years of compassionate service to the people of Bihar. The Bank offered a helping hand to the Hospital in purchasing various medical equipments like pulse oxymeter, drying shes, tractor, Ms office, Dunlop mattress etc. to treat the poor and needy sections of the society most of who come to them in a critical condition needing immediate medical attention.

Bed sheet for the poor and needy patients of Nazareth Hospital Allahabad

Nazareth Hospital Allahabad is run by the catholic Diocese of Allahabad and is one of the leading hospitals having almost all departments serving the poor in and around Allahabad. The Bank supported the institution to urgently acquire beds as they were facing shortage of bed facilities for the poor and needy patients.

Ambulance to St. Gregorious Dayabhavan, Tumkur District, Karnataka.

St. Gregorious Dayabhavan is a project of Malankara Orthodox Church, Kottayam. The project has the Catholicons of the East as its Patron is located at Kunigal, around 70 kms from Bangalore. An ambulance was provided to the institution for transporting HIV patients in and around Tumkur District, Karnataka.

Sponsored “Hindi Musical Melodies” a fund raising concert for cancer patients at Mumbai

Asian Cancer Foundation was set up by thirty eminent oncologists each with more than 20 years of experience in the field of cancer management, to help needy patients. The foundation helps the societies less privileged and unfortunate cancer victims including children in their diagnosis and treatment cost. The foundation hosted a fund raising concert by Shri, Parthiv Gohil at Mumbai and Bank extended support by sponsoring the event. The fund raised from the concert was utilized for the treatment of cancer victims and other allied activities conducted by the NGO

“Soccer and cricket championship” a programme to eradicate drug abuse from the society and promote healthy youth, Jammu. Christian sports organization J&K was formed in 2012 with an objective of upliftment of youth and helping youths influenced by drug addiction. The Bank supported this year’s events which aim to persuade youth to get rid of drugs, alcohol, smoking and allied things.

"FEDERAL BANK SPARSH" – 5 days residential workshop for children with speech and hearing disabilities at IMA Kochi.

The Federal Bank in association with Impresario Event management India Ltd organized "SPARSH" an approach towards helping the children with disabilities. The programme focused on "Children with Speech and Hearing Disabilities. Sparsh was a residential workshop for the kinds and their families from 20th to 24th May, 2013. The workshop deal with activities like counseling session for the kinds as well as for parents, Medical checkup, yoga classes' etc. 25 families were shortlisted for the program.

Touch Screen tablets for Nirmala Training Center for early detection and treatment of children with Autism, Kakkanad. Nirmala Center for Exceptional Children is an initiative of MSJ sisters, as a separate wing of Navajyothi center, who are actively involved in early detection and treatment of children with autism. At present 80 children with autism are taking benefits out of it. On the treatment side, it is scientifically proven that children with Autism trained using touch screen tablets in early years respond in a better way to treat. Identifying this, Bank sponsored touch screen tablets to the institution.

Federal Bank donates Home Care Vehicle to the Pain and Palliative Care Society, Medical College, Kozhikode

Cardiac motor to “Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission” Wayanad –treat the tribal population who are suffering from cardiac ailments. Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission is an institution engaged in Socio medical services in Wayanad, the Adivasi predominant district of Kerala. The mission is running a dispensary, charitable hospital, diagnostic & counseling center, mobile medical units, and does services like conducting medical colonies. The Bank sponsored a cardiac motor to treat the tribal population who are suffering from cardiac ailments.

Abilities Mela, Cochin 2013 – People’s council for social justice

People’s Council for Social Justice (PSC) is a registered charitable trust under the Travancore Cochin Literacy, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration act, 1955 People’s Council for Social Justice (PSC) mainly focuses on development of women, children, scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and other backward sections of the society to ensure social justice through legal assistance and legal education. Like every year, this year also they conducted ‘Abilities Mela” for showcasing and selling craft work made by differently abled. the mela was sponsored by Federal Bank.

Drive against the spread of Mosquitoes in Cochin- a Joint initiative by Cochin Corporation, Federal Bank and Youth Forum of Kerala Chamber of Commerce

Federal Bank stepped in to provide a helping hand to Cochin Corporation and the Youth Forum of the Kerala Chamber of Commerce & Industry, to bring down the biggest menace faced by the people of Ernakulum - mosquitoes. It is a much applauded initiative as it results in a much healthier life for the entire populace of the town.

Motor to supply water to the inmates of Balabhavan, Thalassery Balabhavan, Thalassery, run by St. Joseph’s province Thalassery for orphan girls, was started in 1965. the Bank extended support to purchase a HP Motor and tank, as they were facing acute water shortage especially during summer.

“Federal Bank Block” for St. Francis Higher Secondary school for Girls, Aluva St Francis Higher Secondary School for Girls, Aluva is a leading institution catering to the educational needs of students from remote panchayats. The bank supported the school in the construction of the ground floor of the new school building.

Computers for financially week students of PMC’s LSSB High School, Pune

PMC’s LSSB School is run by Pune Municipal Corporation. Children from lower/middle class families are studying upto 10th Standard. The school could not provide proper computer education to the students as the computers where not working properly. The Bank sponsored the required number of computers by identifying the urgent need.

Library cum information center for St. Mary’s High School, Chellanam

Chellanam is an extremely backward costal village and St. Mary’s High School is the only hope for the future of many poor families of the needy community. The institution is a fashioner of destiny of Chellanam panchayath and the wellspring of development of the whole area. The bank supported the school to develop a library cum information center, as majority of the students in the school are from extremely poor family and hence accessibility to book and other information gathering tools are almost nil.

Chairs for Multimedia Classroom of Govt. Model Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode

Govt. Model Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode, was started in the year 1953. It is one of the oldest Govt. School in the district of Kozhikode with 750 students. Due to the financial constraints, The Bank sponsored chairs for its Multimedia classroom where most of the functions are conducted.

Laptops for financially week students of Abkari Workers for higher education- Kilimannur The Abkari workers are economically backward and many a time illiterate. Their children are having an aptitude for learning but often cannot realize their dreams as their parents are financially week. Identifying this need, The Bank sponsored laptops to deserving students who are undergoing higher education.

Federal Bank donated a School Van to KRIPA Special School, a Vocational Training Centre for physically and mentally challenged youth at Chunangamveli. “Vidya Jyoti” scheme for supply of tablet computers to spread e-literacy among students of Govt./Govt .aided schools. Bank supported “Vidya Jyoti” an educational programme, were tablet computers were distributed to students who secured ‘A Plus’ in class X/XII examinations. The project is meant to democratize knowledge production by ensuring access to modern facilities to students coming from different backgrounds. The tablet contains e-books, question banks and other reference for academic purpose

Furniture for Precious special school, Nedummkunnam

Precious school is a center for Child and Adolescent psychosocial therapy and parental skill training. It’s the only institution of its kind in Kerala, perhaps in India for children and adolescents with mental and behavioral disorder. The Bank sponsored classroom furniture which includes student’s chairs, instructor’s chair, tables etc.

Constructed an open air multipurpose auditorium for Govt Higher Secondary School- Puliyanam

Govt. Higher Secondary School Puliyanam was started in 1949 as ‘Pattarumadom’. Though the 65 year old school caters to the education requirement of thousands from the locality, it

suffers from the lack of proper infrastructural facilities. To overcome this, the Federal Bank stepped in to help built a open air multipurpose auditorium which can function as class rooms, seminar/assembly halls, game courts etc.

Financial support to Chinnamma Memorial Girls High School, Trivandrum- renovation of classroom with new furniture

Chinnamma Memorial Girls High School was founded in the year 1924 by late Smt. Chinnamma who happened to be the educational Inspector under the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom. The school started to educate children from the poorest sections of the society who are not in a position to afford studies in private schools. Federal Bank supported to refurnish the existing 10 classrooms by sponsoring the required furniture such as benches, desks, green writing boards, teacher’s table chair etc.

Sponsoring schools for educating the tribals of Idukki and Wayanad in association with “Friends of Tribal Society”

“Friends of Tribal Society” is a service organization for the noble cause of development of remote villages, through education of the most neglected community, tribals of India. The organization which started with just 60 schools in 1989 is now established about 40000 schools educating over 10 lakh children covering 12 states. In Kerala, Federal Bank is proud to join the ranks of companies like BPCL, Cochin refineries; KITCO etc. in supporting the organization carry out its noble cause. the Bank is currently sponsoring 20 school in Idukki and Wayanad.

“Carmel Mozart Fest” a fund raising programme to help financially deprived children to continue their education, Chalakudy.

Carmel HSS and Carmel Academy are educational institution under CMI congregation of Catholic priests. CMI congregation is well known and highly reputed for quality; value based and disciplined education all over India, especially Kerala. ‘Association of Carmel’ organized a fund raising programme with support from Federal Bank, were the fund raised from the programme is used for financially deprived children to continue their education

“Musical programme” a fund raising programme for the marriage of poor girls, girl child education and home for homeless, Hyderabad

The Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Kerala have seven parishes in Hyderabad and are running schools, balawadies , hostels, orphanages etc. During their Diamond Jubilee year, the Church undertook a project to bear the expenses for marriage of economically poor girls, girl child education programme, a community hall and church reconstruction program. To raise funds

for the same, the church conducted a musical program which was fully supported by Federal Bank.

Playing equipments for the kinder garden section of “Mary Giri Vidya Mandir”, Punalur.

Mary Giri Vishya mandir is an English medium ICSC school established to extend quality education to the down trodden children especially from plantation and agricultural area. The Bank sponsored playing equipments for the kinder garden section of the school.

School bus for mentally challenged children of Vavshakti Vidyalaya, Rajkot The Diocese of Rajkot has maintained a strong relation with our Rajkot branch right from its inception. Navshakthi Vidyalaya, started in 1993, for the development of the mentally challenged was supported by the bank, to purchase a bus.

Supported Vimala Bhavan Special School to organize confidence building trip for inmates Vimala Bhavan is an orphanage for handicapped and poor students run by Adoration sisters. The institution is functioning for the betterment of its inmates and are extending helping hands for making them self reliant. Federal Bank supported them to organize a confidence building trip to visit places like airport, Marine Drive, Fort Kochi, Mattanchery- Synagogue etc.

Distribution of pre owned PCs and setting up of laboratory for schools in rural and/backward areas Federal Bank undertook a project to distribute the PC's that were being replaced every year in the bank, to needy and deserving schools for setting up computer labs. These PC's which otherwise would have been sold for scrap, have thus been utilised for a much better purpose.

Amplifier and connected accessories for educating differently abled children of Marian Play Home, Trivandrum. Marian play school is a school for differently abled children run by Martha Mariam Social Service Society established since 1983 under the Diocese of Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church. The school is meant for differently abled children from the age group of 4 to 18 years. The Bank sponsored amplifier and connected accessories for physiotherapy, audio and speech therapy, dance and cultural programme training, sports activities etc.

“Federal bank URAFEST 2014”- a youth focused initiative concerned with development of personality traits, Aluva. The Union of Residence Association is a fraternity of 23 Residence Associations functioning in Aluva town. It focuses on cleanliness, sound health and secured life of citizens of Aluva. They organised URAFEST with programmes including arts, sports and culutural events. The fest was supported by the bank.

Federal bank- St. Teresa’s College “Gender Inclusion in e-Governance (GleG) Programme” St. Theresa's College, Ernakulam, founded in the year 1925 has a long tradition of encouraging women education and empowerment. The college came up with the idea of "Gender Inclusion in e-Gvernance Programme" to empower women in decision making and participation, through generating awareness of various e-governance initiatives and help women take advantage of these initiatives. Federal Bank was an active supporter of the entire project and the bank's participation was acknowledged through many awards and honours

Relief Measure to Victims of Uttarakhand Flood

In order to mitigate the hardships caused to the affected people and to support the humanitarian efforts, the federals formed a relief committee where all the employees contributed towards the noble cause. The Bank is in the construction of a multipurpose transitional hall at Matli.

“Develoop 2014” in association with Federal Bank – a youth empowerment programme initiated by Startup Village

Startup Village is India's first Public-Private partnership model that is a technology business incubator focussed on the telecom sector. The Village's vision is to incubate 1000 product startups over the decade. Federal Bank supported the program, which will help bridge the gap between academia and industry. Develoop is still in its infancy stages and it is bound to benefit the bank in many ways once its full capacity is reached.

Insurance scheme as support for Balulal Laxmi Narayan Trust for the upliftment of girl children below poverty line in Jaysinghpur, Maharashtra

Balulal Laxmi Narayan Trust is widely appreciated for their efforts in the area of upliftment of girl children below poverty line in the state of Maharashtra. Federal Bank is supporting the trust by providing insurance facility of Rs.50,000/- under the Fed Suraksha scheme to the breadwinner of the family free of cost.

Federal Bank Mathrubhumi SEED 2012-13

Federal Bank with Mathrubhumi organized a student empowerment and Environmental Development Programme called “SEED 2012-13”. The programme involved the students, teachers and schools towards bring about a change in the society to minimize waste, proper waste management and planting trees for future. the initiative SEED aimed to create awareness among the growing student community on environment protection and enable them to protect the water, air and soil. the project aimed to pave way for a new green culture by assembling high schools, higher secondary schools and upper primary schools in the states.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, as part of their CSR initiatives, Thiruvananthapuram Zone organized an environment enrichment ceremony, planting over 100 different saplings inside the Technopark campus. IT professionals & our bank employees also joined hands in a Group Run - spreading the message of Think. Eat. Save. Rejuvenation of SPARSHAM- project involved in rehabilitation of Marad communal riots affected personal

The small coastal village of Marad, Kozhikode was torn apart by communal riots. Identifying the genuine requirements of the downtrodden people of the area, Federal Bank, in a joint initiative with the District Administration Kozhikode, Kudumashree Mission started the SPARSHAM project to provide jobs to economically backward women.

Federal Bank employees from Bangalore had an active participation in the TCS Majja Run a fund raising program for slum development which was a 5 kilometer run in which more than 50000 runners from various corporate participated. We had an enthusiastic group of ladies and gentlemen, charged with lots of excitement which included our MD & CEO, Mr. Shyam Srinivasan, Mr. Jose K Mathew, Zonal Head- Bangalore, Mr. Abu George, Regional Head- Bangalore and Mr. P P Thomas, AGM- Bangalore Credit Hub.
