The inspections are being carried out by experienced animal welfare auditors NSF International. NSF has carried out a successful pilot over the past months with a small group of trainers to allow auditors to familiarise themselves with the process. NSF will now contact trainers directly to arrange a date and time for their inspection, which will be taking place throughout the year. All trainers have been sent a letter and FAQ document via email to explain the new inspection process and to remind them of the wider licensing changes. These have also been made available in the trainers’ portal on the GBGB’s website. If you have not received an email, please contact the GBGB office. Peter Harnden, GBGB Trainers’ Director, whose kennels took part in a pilot inspection, said: “We had our full inspection here and it went very smoothly. We felt that they were thorough but fair. We have said all along that the vast majority of trainers out there will already be meeting the standards but I would advise every kennel to now go and check the PAS, speak to their Stipe ahead of their inspection and get any issues sorted. “I think that having these inspections in place is a hugely positive thing for the sport. It means that our kennels are being externally rubber-stamped as being top- quality which is something that no-one, inside or outside greyhound racing, can argue about.” Paul Illingworth, GBGB Senior Stipendiary Steward, said: “NSF has carried out pilot inspections with a number of kennels over the past months which has been a very worthwhile exercise. I want to thank all trainers involved in this and their staff for their cooperation and helpful feedback. “The new inspections are part of broader changes in the way we license our trainers which will ensure that greyhounds receive the same consistent quality of care across all licensed residential kennels. It is another step forward as we look to gain UKAS accreditation for our licensing of trainers premises. “NSF will contact trainers directly to arrange their inspections which will take place throughout the year. We hope that the document that has been sent out to kennels this week will answer any questions trainers have about the process. If you have any further queries please contact your area Stipendiary Steward.” CALENDAR 1 IMPORTANT NOTICES Complaints The Greyhound Board of Great Britain will receive complaints in confidence from anyone concerned about a possible breach of the Rules of Racing. Additional information presented in answer to question 1. Additional comments Bringing good elements of past life into current living is a part of heritage Oxford speedway won the Division 3 in 1950. Winning every competition on 1964. Oxford Stadium has a lot of Oxford history down the years Blackbird Leys, Oxford Stadium, Car Factory all closely linked down the years Its part of Cowley always has been The report is accurate but in my opinion understates the historic communal value of the stadium. There are further historical factors that can be taken into consideration. No other venue like it in Oxfordshire no other stadiums offer these track sports Oxford Stadium has been great part in the lives of a significant number of people from Oxfordshire Oxford needs the stadium 241 Oxford Heritage Assets Register Keep the stadium as a multi-functional site, even some new venues would be welcome. Very valuable community asset for many years We think it should reopen for greyhound racing This stadium has so much heritage. Especially the speedway that oxford people have been supporting. I can’t comment on the accuracy of the report but it is well written and covers key events.

  • Early History of Thoroughbred Horses in Virginia (1730-1865)
Early History of Thoroughbred Horses in Virginia (1730-1865) Old Capitol at Williamsburg with Guests shown on Horseback and in a Horse-drawn Carriage Virginia History Series #11-08 © 2008 First Horse Races in North America/Virginia (1665/1674) The first race-course in North America was built on the Salisbury Plains (now known as the Hempstead Plains) of Long Island, New York in 1665. The present site of Belmont Park is on the Western edge of the Hempstead Plains. In 1665, the first horse racing meet in North America was held at this race-course called “Newmarket” after the famous track in England. These early races were match events between two or three horses and were run in heats at a distance of 3 or 4 miles; a horse had to complete in at least two heats to be judged the winner. By the mid-18th century, single, "dash" races of a mile or so were the norm. Virginia's partnership with horses began back in 1610 with the arrival of the first horses to the Virginia colonies. Forward thinking Virginia colonists began to improve upon the speed of these short stocky horses by introducing some of the best early imports from England into their local bloodlines. Horse racing has always been popular in Virginia, especially during Colonial times when one-on-one matches took place down village streets, country lanes and across level pastures. Some historians claim that the first American Horse races were held near Richmond in Enrico County (now Henrico County), Virginia, in 1674. A Match Race at Tucker’s Quarter Paths – painting by Sam Savitt Early Racing in America Boston vs Fashion (The Great Match Race) Importation of Thoroughbreds into America The first Thoroughbred horse imported into the American Colonies was Bulle Rock (GB), who was imported in 1730 by Samuel Gist of Hanover County, Virginia.
