The University of Sheffield in Top 100 in World Reputation Rankings

The University of Sheffield holds a prominent place among the top 100 institutions in the world, according to Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings published in March 2011. This ranking is based exclusively on universities’ standing among experienced aca- demics all over the globe. The University of Sheffield is one of the 12 UK institutions that have managed to be ranked in the top 100.

Dr. Nikolaidis, Head of the Business Administration and Economics Department, CITY College, comments: “Being ranked in the top 100 elite institutions of the world demonstrates that the University of Shef- field is recognized globally for academic excellence. It is a great hon- our, and at the same time a challenge, for CITY College to be a faculty of such a renowned university. However, it is certainly a challenge that we can stand up to.”

The World Reputation Rankings have been based on the largest and most comprehensive academic reputation evaluation ever undertaken. A total of 13,388 experienced academics from around the world were surveyed in 2010. Average respondents have been working at a higher education institution for more than 16 years and have published more than 50 research papers.

Professor Keith Burnett, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, commented: "Being named in the top 100 is a fantastic accolade for the University, and one that is richly deserved. As the World Reputa- tion Rankings are based on the opinion of experienced academics, we particularly value this recognition of our excellence and international standing in the areas of teaching and research."
