Dear friends: A warm welcome to the Cascadia Art Museum’s third annual summer Gala. We are pleased and thankful that you chose to help us celebrate our third anniversary. Tonight, we gather together to celebrate and support the special role that the Cascadia Art Museum plays here in our region and in the greater Edmonds community. It is an institution dedicated to preserving the legacy of Northwest Art and it provides one with valuable insights into the arts history of this area. Thanks to your support, the Cascadia Art Museum can build on and create school and community programs that connect with a broad spectrum of the people who live here. Our program offerings include an integrated writing and art curriculum for school children. Also offered are regular monthly tours for memory care patients and their caregivers in conjunction with SnoMentia and the Alzheimer’s Association, a popular monthly Coffee with the Curator, and a classical musical series in the museum. On behalf of the board of trustees, we thank you for your generosity tonight and hope that you will enjoy this special and important evening.

30 LIVE AUCTION L-16 Legendary Port Wine Two Bottles: One That Is Perfectly Aged and Ready to Enjoy, and A 2nd Bottle That Will be A Great Addition to Any Wine Cellar VALUE: $465

Rich, seductive and stunningly intense, that’s the beauty of Port. It’s the perfect ending to any meal best enjoyed with good friends. Legend has it that it is imperative to pass the Port to the left, pouring a glass for your neighbor on your right before you do so. Ideally, the decanter should never stop its clockwise progress around the table until it is finished. If the decanter should ever stall, it is considered very bad form to ask for it. Instead, you ask the person hogging the decanter: “Do you know the Bishop of Norwich?”. If they are au fait with port etiquette, they will immediately realize their faux pas and pass along the decanter with an apology. If not, and they answer in the negative, you should say: “He’s a terribly good chap, but he always forgets to pass the port.” Whether this legend is true or not, you wouldn’t want to waste a drop! Thank you to Patty Gordon & John Goodman

And guess what, you can share the porch with your closest 2 and 4-legged friends! You’ll also enjoy a private tour of Georgia Gerber’s sculpture studio for up to eight additional day guests, and see and hear firsthand how her creative process evolves. Currently, along with her husband, she lives on rural Whidbey Island, Washington, where she operates her own studio and foundry. She primarily works with life size animal and human figures, often incorporating architectural or abstract elements into the design. Thank you to Mark Raden, Tammy Taylor Raden, and Georgia Gerber

CascadiaPREMERA PROUDLY Art SUPP0RTS Museum CascadiaGala & Auction Art Museum Gala & Auction LIVE AUCTION L-21 “Deep Topsoil” by Tom Hoffmann 2017 Painting, Watercolor on Paper, 23-3/8” x 25-3/8” VALUE: $1,700

The beauty of a watercolor painting lies in its diaphanous layers, delicate strokes and luminous washes. However, the very features that define the beauty of the medium can make it difficult to master. Northwest artist Tom Hoffmann has been trying to master watercolor for 40 years. And somehow, he says, “the medium manages to stay just beyond my grasp. The learning process has mainly been a matter of letting go – giving up control – so that painting becomes more and more an act of watching the paint do what it wants. Content becomes less and less specific, until sometimes, it is released entirely.” This painting of the Palouse in Eastern Washington is a welcome and important addition to any Northwest art collection. Thank you to Tom Hoffmann
