Explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales on our guided walks. We offer a great range of walks to suit everyone - including gentle walks along the green valleys as well as opportunities to climb impressive local peaks. Join our friendly and knowledgeable guides who will bring this stunning national park to life. Our experienced guides offer the choice of up to three different walks each day, choose the option which best suits your interests and fitness. We provide flexible holidays. Join our guided walks, explore independently, or relax at Newfield Hall. ITINERARY Day 1: Arrival Day You're welcome to check in from 4pm onwards. Enjoy a complimentary Afternoon Tea on arrival. Day 2: Haw Crag And Gargrave Option 1 - The Pennine Way Distance: 8 miles (12.5km) Ascent: 750 feet (220m) In Summary: This circular walk follows the Pennine Way south to Gargrave. From here we follow an old green lane to reach the trig point on Haw Crag before descending back to Newfield Hall. Highlight: An opportunity to climb Haw Crag (677 feet), which you can see from the house. Option 2 - Gargrave And Haw Crag Distance: 9.5 miles (15.5km) www.hfholidays.co.uk PAGE 2 [email protected] Tel: +44(0) 20 3974 8865 Ascent: 850 feet (260m) In summary: Our circular walk takes us south of Newfield Hall through undulating scenery to the village of Gargrave where we follow the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, before returning via an old green lane and Haw Crag. Highlight: A pleasant stroll by Eshton Beck and along the canal towpath where we will see the Gargrave locks. Option 3 - Gargrave And Canal Locks Distance: 13.5 miles (22km) Ascent: 1,200 feet (380m) In summary: This walk follows a similar route as option 2 and continues south west of Gargrave along the canal to Priest Holme Changeline Bridge, and then returning along the Pennine Way to Newfield Hall. Highlight: An opportunity to view several locks on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and enjoy great views to the north of Gargrave. Day 3: Airton And The River Aire Option 1 - Kirkby Malham And River Aire Distance: 6.5 miles (10.5km) Ascent: 650 feet (200m) In Summary: Our circular walk from Newfield Hall takes us to historic Airton village before continuing along Malhamdale valley to Kirkby Malham. In the afternoon we will return along the Pennine Way beside the River Aire. Highlight: Discover plenty of historical interest including an 18th Century watermill, the 'Cathedral of the Dales’ at Kirkby Malham and the curious story of a watery grave! Option 2 - Malham And River Aire Distance: 9.5 miles (15km) Ascent: 950 feet (280m) In Summary: Discover the beautiful countryside of Malhamdale as we explore the valley visiting the villages of Airton, Malham and Kirkby Malham. Highlight: Enjoy views of Malham Cove and walk past Aire Head where the river resurges from underground. Option 3 - Malhamdale Highlights Distance: 13 miles (21km) Ascent: 1,750 feet (540m) In Summary: We walk through the villages of Airton and Kirkby Malham, enjoying stunning scenery before descending into Malham village. From here we visit the iconic Janet’s Foss and Malham Cove, before returning alongside the River Aire. Day 5: Otterburn And Hellifield Moor Option 1 - Otterburn Beck Distance: 7 miles (11.5km) Ascent: 500 feet (160m) In summary: Our walk takes us across fields to Kirk Syke and along lanes to the small village of Otterburn, before returning via Bell Busk to Newfield Hall. Highlight: Discover the hidden history of Otterburn, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village took its name from the beck, “the stream of the otter”, which runs through the middle of the village. Option 2 - Otterburn And Wenninber Distance: 9.5 miles (15.5km) Ascent: 800 feet (240m) In summary: After crossing the fields to Kirk Syke, this walk heads north along the old Green Lane of Kirk Syke before visiting Otterburn. Another Green lane takes us on a loop round Wenningber Hill before before returning to Newfield Hall via Kendal Hill. Highlight: The history of Otterburn and the ‘perfect green drumlin’ of Wenningber Hill. Option 3 - Crayke And Hellifield Moor Distance: 11.5 miles (19km) Ascent: 1,250 feet (380m) In summary: After starting our walk the same way as option 2 as far as the quarries, we head off to Orms Gill Green where there is an HF Pathways plantation. After crossing Crayke Moor to reach Langber Lane we head for Otterburn over Hellifield Moor and round Wenningber Hill, before ascending Kendal Hill and returning through Bell Busk. Highlight: Superb views all round from Hellifield Moor and a glimpse of Ingleborough. Day 6: Winterburn & Weets Top Option 1 - Calton & Winterburn Distance: 7.5 miles (12km) Ascent: 800 feet (260m) In summary: This circular walk starts by going past Calton Hall, then exploring the hamlet of Calton. Tracks and field paths lead to the Winterburn Reservoir dam, then on through the hamlet of Winterburn. We return to Newfield Hall via field paths and lanes. Highlight: Learn how the area has connections to Oliver Cromwell, with the fascinating history of Calton Hall. www.hfholidays.co.uk PAGE 4 [email protected] Tel: +44(0) 20 3974 8865 Option 2 - Winterburn & Reservoir Distance: 10 miles (16.5km) Ascent: 1,000 feet (300m) In summary: After taking lanes through Calton village, tracks and field paths lead us to the lane past the hamlet of Winterburn. From a high moorland path, we glimpse Winterburn Reservoir below before descending to cross Hetton Common Beck and returning by field paths and lanes. Highlight: Built to supply water to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Winterburn Reservoir is now a good spot to look for a range of birds. Option 3 - Weets Top And Winterburn Distance: 12 miles (19km) Ascent: 1,400 feet (420m) In summary: After passing through the hamlet of Calton, a steady climb leads over moorland to Weets Top. We then drop down over moor on the Dales High Way to Winterburn Reservoir passing near to the hamlet of Winterburn before continuing across field paths and on lanes to return to Newfield Hall. Highlight: Superb views can be had of the Malham Mastiff as well as the surrounding area from the trig point at Weets Top. Day 7: Malhamdale Option 1 - Kirkby Malham Circular Distance: 7 miles (11km) Ascent: 700 feet (200m) In Summary: This circular walk through the village of Calton before joining the Pennine Way to take us to the medieval church at Kirkby Malham. We then cross open countryside to reach the 17th Century village of Airton before returning along the River Aire and Pennine Way. Highlight: Discover plenty of historical interest including an 18th century watermill, the Cathedral of the Dales’ at Kirkby Malham and the curious story of a watery grave. Option 2 - Malham Via The Pennine Way Distance: 10.5 miles (15km) Ascent: 1,100 feet (340m) In Summary: Discover the beautiful countryside as we walk along the Pennine Way through Malhamdale to reach the village of Malham. We return via the villages of Kirkby Malham & Airton. Highlight: Enjoy views of Malham Cove, and walk past Aire Head Spring where the river resurges from underground.
