Limestone Coast zone (other) Vintage overview

Overview of vintage statistics Limestone Coast zone (other) includes the vineyards around Bordertown, Mt Benson, Robe, Lucindale, Beachport, Mount Gambier and near but The harvest from Limestone Coast (other) was 14,807 tonnes in 2007, outside the declared GI regions of Padthaway, Coonawarra and less than 50% of the 2006 harvest of over 30,000 tonnes. The total value Wrattonbully (also referred to as “Limestone Coast zone (other)” in these of grapes from the region was nearly halved, to less than $14 million – with tables. The total area of vines included in this definition is around 3,000 average purchase values for the major varieties increasing slightly, as a hectares. result of the greatly reduced tonnages. There were only 49 hectares of new plantings in this area in spring 2006 (including top-working and replacements) across these regions – most of which were in Robe. The estimated production from the Limestone Coast (other) vineyards for 2008 is 24,000 tonnes. The wineries’ committed intake is higher than this estimate, so there is not expected to be any surplus fruit. By 2012, the estimated production is 36,000 tonnes, of which 64% (23,000 tonnes) is already under contract or winery grown fruit. This leaves around 13,000 tonnes available on the open market. There is likely to be a return to over- supply on the open market across the state by 2012, if growing conditions return to “normal” (see State Summary section for details).
