Traditional cantilevered stairs Cantilevered stairs are generally to be found in grand buildings built prior to the twentieth century. They are a marvel to behold – but they are mis-named. On one side, the steps are embedded in a wall, but on the other side they are free. This side of the stair seems to have no support. It appears as though the steps have been cantilevered out from the wall, but that is not the case – the steps are only embedded 10-20 cm into the wall. The vital mechanical function of the wall is to prevent a step from rotating under the weight of the steps above it. As a result, the load of the heavy steps is transmitted down through the steps themselves to the floor at the bottom.

    AREA PLANNING Living Area The living area is the part of the house that most friends and guests see. This is the area that usually becomes the showplace. This area is roughly 1/3 of the house and serves a variety of functions. It is the location for family get-togethers, dining, recreation, entertaining, and just relaxing. The living area is composed of a number of rooms. They include the living room, dining room, foyer, recreation or family room and special-purpose rooms such as a sunroom or home office. There are precedencies where the disease has been a co-drive to architecture and urban transformations. Many are questioning if the pandemic of Covid-19, will make us reflect on the legacy we are leaving and change it? This is a question that requires complex analysis. A first steps will be to understand what home feels like during this period. This paper tries to understand the exploitation of domestic space during the quarantine through the examination of spatial design. The majority of constructions today in Albania is the collective housing. It is the object of this research, which aims to reflect on the domestic space, making an assessment on how two typologies, the close and the open floor plan reacted in such specific conditions.
